Steam Workshop Manager is a game-agnostic skill for AI agents that helps users discover, evaluate, subscribe to, and verify Steam Workshop content.
Instead of blindly installing popular search results, it resolves the requested game and AppID, audits existing subscriptions, evaluates version compatibility, dependencies, DLC requirements, maintenance status, and potential conflicts, and selects the smallest compatible set of Workshop items that matches the user's intended experience.
The skill treats account subscription, local download, and in-game enablement as separate states and reports each state only when it can be verified. It does not hard-code a game, Steam installation path, AppID, or Workshop item.
- Discovers Steam installations and library folders
- Resolves installed games and AppIDs dynamically
- Checks whether the selected game supports Steam Workshop
- Converts desired gameplay outcomes into useful search criteria
- Audits existing Workshop content before subscribing
- Distinguishes base mods, translations, dependencies, patches, tools, and overhaul-specific add-ons
- Evaluates game-version compatibility, dependencies, DLC requirements, maintenance, and conflict risks
- Minimizes duplicate features and overlapping modifications
- Performs only explicitly authorized account actions
- Verifies subscription, download, and launcher enablement separately
- Stops when UI controls or confirmation dialogs cannot be identified reliably
- Never reads or exports Steam credentials, cookies, session tokens, or Steam Guard data
Copy the steam-workshop-manager directory into your agent's skills directory:
.agents/skills/steam-workshop-manager/SKILL.md
The exact skills directory depends on the agent framework.
Invoke the skill explicitly when supported:
$steam-workshop-manager
Example requests:
Find and subscribe to maintained city-building mods compatible with my installed game version.
Audit my existing Workshop subscriptions, avoid duplicates, and add any required compatibility patches.
Build a lightweight quality-of-life mod set without installing overlapping cheat menus.
The skill treats subscribing, unsubscribing, rating, favoriting, commenting, publishing, and editing collections as separate account actions. Authorization for one action does not authorize the others.
It also distinguishes three states:
- The Steam account is subscribed to an item.
- The Workshop content is downloaded locally.
- The mod is enabled in the game launcher or mod manager.
A local content directory alone is not reported as proof of account subscription. A Steam console download command is not treated as proof of subscription.
This skill supports games that expose content through Steam Workshop. If a game does not support Steam Workshop, it reports that limitation and does not silently switch to an unofficial mod source.
