This guide and script sets up a full pipeline using FFmpeg and MediaMTX to restream a multicast MPEG-TS input as:

  • RTMP
  • RTSP
  • HLS
  • DASH
  • Local .ts backup file

🧰 Requirements

  • Ubuntu 20.04+
  • Installed: ffmpeg, mediamtx, nginx

βš™οΈ MediaMTX Config (/etc/mediamtx/mediamtx.yml)

rtsp: yes
rtmp: yes
hls:
  enabled: yes
dash:
  enabled: yes

paths:
  your_stream:
    source: publisher

Restart MediaMTX:

killall mediamtx
mediamtx /etc/mediamtx/mediamtx.yml &

πŸ“ Folder Setup

sudo mkdir -p /var/www/html/hls
sudo mkdir -p /var/www/html/dash
sudo chmod -R 777 /var/www/html

🌐 NGINX Config (Optional for HLS/DASH)

Add to /etc/nginx/sites-available/default:

server {
    listen 80;
    root /var/www/html;

    location /hls {
        types {
            application/vnd.apple.mpegurl m3u8;
            video/mp2t ts;
        }
        add_header Cache-Control no-cache;
    }

    location /dash {
        types {
            application/dash+xml mpd;
        }
        add_header Cache-Control no-cache;
    }
}

Then restart nginx:

sudo nginx -t && sudo systemctl reload nginx

Make it executable:

chmod +x your_stream-stream.sh
