Goal And Delivered Outcome

  • Outcome basis / optional anchor: a reproduced repository-wide gate failure — the required kernel-static-checks job fails on main itself, so checks, merge-gate, pytest and stage2c-correctness-e2e all fail for every open pull request regardless of their own content. No issue is filed for it.

  • Goal/source and gap: tests/test_chat_codex_history.py imports two pytest fixture helpers at module level (lines 10-11, already # noqa: F401) and then names its test parameters with the same identifiers at lines 14, 53 and 105. Ruff reports each parameter as a redefinition of the module-level binding:

    F811 Redefinition of unused `steward` from line 11      -> tests/test_chat_codex_history.py:14
    F811 Redefinition of unused `conversation` from line 10 -> tests/test_chat_codex_history.py:53
    F811 Redefinition of unused `conversation` from line 10 -> tests/test_chat_codex_history.py:105
    Found 3 errors.

    Readings that place this on main, not on a contributor diff: main's own run 42175247447 (head 6d42772f367, push event) fails with the identical job set and its kernel-static-checks log carries the same three F811 lines; the last commit to touch this test file is b4aa8493a (fix(chat): compact bounded history before new native turns).

  • Observable before → after, with the validation row that proves it: before, the job's exact command exits with 3 errors; after, the same command reports no findings, with identical test outcomes.

  • Issue/task and intended base: no issue (this unblocks other people's PRs, it does not complete one). Intended base is loopx-project/loopx:main.

Why an annotation instead of a code change

The shadowing is intentional, not a defect: inside those three tests the parameter is what the body needs — store, runtime, provider, transport, binding, capture, workspace = steward and root, store, runtime, session, _ = conversation unpack the fixture value, while the helper that is actually called, configure(root, …), is not shadowed and is untouched by this diff. So there is nothing to "fix" in the test logic; the only question is how the gate should see it.

The repository already answers that for the identical shape. tests/test_chat_conversation_bindings.py uses # noqa: F811 on the signature line for exactly this import-a-fixture-plus-same-named-parameter pattern (visible at its lines 16, 67, 222, 302, 377, 403, 428, 455), and # noqa: F401, F811 on an import line where the redefinition sits elsewhere. This diff follows that convention rather than inventing a second one. I considered renaming the module-level imports or moving them into a shared conftest.py; both change how fixtures are resolved across a wide test surface for a purely static complaint, and both would diverge from the established local form.

Author Declaration

  • Written by: model_agent — Qoder AI assistant, at the contributor's direction; no human review has occurred.

Implemented against

  • Specification and revision: the Lint test suite step of .github/workflows/python-tests.yml (line 257: python -m ruff check tests loopx/canary loopx/control_plane loopx/domain_packs loopx/presentation), and the existing convention in tests/test_chat_conversation_bindings.py.
  • Criteria:
Criterion (spec clause) Disposition Symbol / path Test or command
The lint step must report no findings across its declared roots implemented tests/test_chat_codex_history.py:14,53,105 the job's exact command
Fixture resolution and test behaviour unchanged implemented (no logic touched) same three signature lines pytest on the file and its fixture modules
Follow the repository's existing handling for this shape implemented tests/test_chat_conversation_bindings.py precedent diff review
The build packaged-browser lane timeout seen on affected PRs out_of_scope examples/personal-workspace-browser-smoke.mjs not addressed here; separately attributed below
  • Self-check before submission: reproduced the three findings locally with the job's own command before changing anything; after the change, re-ran that command, the affected test file, and the neighbourhood (the two fixture modules this file imports plus the convention file). Ran a negative control that removes one annotation and confirms the finding returns, so the green is produced by the annotation rather than by the rule quietly stopping. Deliberately left configure and every assertion, fixture and test body unchanged. Not run: the rest of the repository test suite (this diff is three comments), and any hosted CI result.

Scope And Continuation

  • Completed scope and remaining work: unblocks the required lint gate for every open PR. The other failure visible on affected PRs is the build job's packaged-browser step (research-history scenario measured 197s, then a 30s locator.textContent timeout, and a different symptom — a frozen 1s lens-switch budget — on an earlier head). That lane only triggers on pull request/release, so there is no main-branch run to compare against and I did not attempt to fix it here.
  • Slice boundary / successor: one file, three comments, independently reversible; no successor.

Validation

  • Tested revision: bb9563cf9a31fb6ed5831a7071c914dddd8265a4
  • Run state: finished
  • Input classes: synthetic
Check kind Result Public-safe evidence / limitation
integration passed The job's exact command goes from Found 3 errors (three F811) on base to no findings on this head.
unit passed pytest -q tests/test_chat_codex_history.py → 33 passed on base and 33 passed on head, so no test gained or lost coverage.
integration passed Neighbourhood run over the two imported fixture modules and the convention file: 192 passed, no failures.
regression_parity passed Negative control: deleting one annotation makes the same command report exactly 1 error again; restoring it returns to clean, byte-identical to the submitted file.
static passed git diff --check.
  • Coverage and gaps: the change is three comments, and the three commands above are the surfaces that could regress (the lint roots, this file's tests, and the fixtures it borrows). Not covered — the remaining nightly fleet and the packaged-browser lane named above, which is unrelated and still red for other PRs. No hosted CI outcome is claimed for this head.

Superseded by d0985c35aa3d (#8191), which added the same three # noqa: F811 markers on the same three def lines in tests/test_chat_codex_history.py. Verified on a clean checkout of that revision: python -m ruff check tests loopx/canary loopx/control_plane loopx/domain_packs loopx/presentation (ruff 0.15.22) reports All checks passed!, so kernel-static-checks and the four gates it feeds are green without this patch. Closing to avoid claiming duplicate work.
