#"What about someone who believes in beautiful things
#but doesn't believe in the beautiful itself...
#Don't you think he is living in a dream rather than
#a wakened state?"

#This is a culmination of multiple years of personal study on modern
#art and art philosophy. It is a codified version of the 'ruleset' I'd begun
#to employ in my Retro-expressionist 'abstract composition' series
#on an 8-bit '90s drawing tablet. Those rules, initially stemming from playful
#improvisation and meditation on the philosophies of my favorite artists, had
#become increasingly systematized as I strived for the eternal Form of beauty,
#which I began to recognize first in the works of Mondrian and Malevich, then
#later to understand through the writings of Kandinsky. 

#Despite the increasingly rigid ruleset, I was initially hesitant to return to
#generative as a medium. During the boom/bust cycle of digital art in 2021, I
#grew tired of much of the generative work I saw. A rare few felt trans-
#cendent, but the vast majority offered me little beyond admiration for
#technical details. This pushed me toward traditional art and an expressionist
#streak, and sparked my second dive into modern art history (the first was my
#intro to Suprematism by Sgt.Slaughtermelon). In '23 I learned to paint with
#acrylics, and began drafting the first version of these rules by hand with
#an L-square & pencil on canvas, using tape to mask. I would return to my
#analog video tools with a newfound understanding.

#I've come to understand that the Cartesian coordinate plane, the basis of
#computer graphics, is the bridge between the abstract and the physical.
#The grid is the representation of pure abstracted ideas in the language
#of the unchanging, mathematics. Solving equations in inches on paper, or 
#programming them in vector space, the underlying expressions are the same.
#The search for perfect beauty continues.
