Smack Mac

Smack your MacBook. Hear a sound. Pure chaos.

Smack Mac is a free macOS menu bar app that detects when you physically slap your MacBook and plays a sound effect. It uses the built-in accelerometer on Apple Silicon MacBooks to feel the impact — no external hardware needed.

How It Works

  1. Smack — Physically smack your MacBook. Yeah, really.
  2. Detect — The built-in accelerometer feels the impact.
  3. Boom — A sound plays. You laugh. You smack again.

Requirements

  • Apple Silicon MacBook (M1 Pro or later recommended)
  • macOS 14 (Sonoma) or newer

Features

  • Lives in the menu bar — no dock icon, stays out of your way
  • Adjustable sensitivity (low, medium, high)
  • 5 built-in sound effects to choose from
  • Launch at login support
  • Free and open source, no data collected

Install

Download the latest release and drag to your Applications folder.

Note: The app requires admin privileges to access the accelerometer hardware. Run with sudo open SmackMac.app or grant access when prompted.

Credits

Built with SwiftUI, IOKit, and AVFoundation. No third-party dependencies.
