Written by Claude Code:

Fewer sequential OpenSearch round trips on rendered pages:

  • CategoryDocuments: a category read alone also reads its path and its children in one follow-up read. A category page asked for them one by one (getParentDesignCategory(), hasChildren()), each a round trip.
  • PriceStepFromCategory (CategoryFrontend, sortOrder -10): the price step from the document on the filtered category model, before PriceRangeStepFromDocument reads that document from the store again.
  • ProductUrlFromRequestPath: a document product without request_path (the product page, linked product rows) takes the rewrite whose only parameter is the id from its urlRewrites, when no category applies. Core asked the url finder once per product.

Measured on a Hyvä shop, document path, warm (Mage-OS profiler):

page before after
category: category store reads 4 2
product page: url rewrite reads 6 2
product page: OpenSearch requests 14 10

catalog-storefront:parity:listing 5/5 identical; parity:detail 27/28 identical, the configurable page differs only in the order of related products of equal position, which core also renders in varying order.

…rips: a category read alone brings its parents and children in the same follow-up read, the layered navigation takes the price step from the document of the filtered category, and a product without a request path takes its own rewrite from its document, so a category page asks the category store twice instead of four times and a product page asks the url rewrite store twice instead of six times.
