This is a big PR, I'm happy to break it into smaller chunks if it makes sense.
I've been working on a fork using SvelteKit as the base technology to ease development of new demos and integrate docs, and took the opportunity to rewrite the base library in TypeScript.
Let me know if anything makes sense to bring upstream, it might be helpful.
