Alacritty Theme Switcher

A simple, interactive TUI for switching Alacritty themes on the fly, written in Rust.

Demo

Prerequisites

  1. Alacritty: Ensure you have Alacritty installed on your system.

  2. Themes: Download the collection of themes from the official alacritty-theme repository. Use the following command to clone it into the correct location:

    mkdir -p ~/.config/alacritty/themes
    git clone https://github.com/alacritty/alacritty-theme.git ~/.config/alacritty/theme

Installation

  1. Download the release binary file.
  2. Place the binary in a directory that is in your system's PATH (e.g., /usr/local/bin).

(Alternatively, you can build from source by cloning this repository and running cargo build --release.)

Usage

To use the theme switcher, simply run the executable from your terminal:

alacritty-theme-switcher

The application operates in two modes:

Normal Mode

This is the default mode on startup. You can scroll through the entire list of your installed themes.

  • Press Enter to apply the selected theme to your alacritty.toml file and exit the application.
  • Press any letter to start searching, or / to enter search mode.

Search Mode

A search bar will appear at the bottom of the screen. As you type, the list of themes will be filtered in real-time.

  • Scroll through the filtered list using the arrow keys.
  • Press Enter to confirm your selection and return to Normal Mode.
  • Press Esc or Ctrl+C to clear the search query and return to Normal Mode.
