Artifact Versioning for Deployment

How would you all like to manage deployment? Based on Bean Machine I'm guessing you want the standard 0.0.1 convention? Should we use 0.0.1-RC1 for the initial release and increment the release candidate number until we feel good enough to release 0.0.1?

Will this be specified in the gradle.properties with a line version=0.0.1-RC1?
