About elvogel

Hi, I'm Lucas Vogel. I started out as a Visual Basic 6 developer in the 90s, switched to .NET and BizTalk in the 2000s, and I've been all over the place ever since. Here's a list of the things I've been working on.

Phoenixml

Phoenixml is an XML platform that I'm in the process of building, with AI tools, that supports .NET Core 10 and future language versions. Keep in mind with this list - the parsers are 97+% complete, and the rest of everything else is more or less a work in progress; nearly everything else is downstream of parser readiness so having them working is critical. You can keep up with everything in this space at https://phoenixml.net or at our documentation site over at https://phoenixml.dev.

Available on NuGet

  • PhoenixmlDb.Xslt - an XSLT parser that supports versions 3 and the upcoming version 4 to the extent possible
  • XSLT MCP Server - help your AI tools understand how our XSLT parser works
  • PhoenixmlDb.XQuery - an XQuery parser that supports versions 3.1 and the upcoming version 4. Includes full-text search and JSON compatibility
  • XQuery MCP Server - help your AI tools understand how our XQuery parser works
  • PhoenixmlDb.Core - components and objects shared by the parsers, the database engine, and more
  • XSpec - XSpec is a unit test and behaviour-driven development (BDD) framework for XSLT, XQuery, Schematron, and XProc. Supported by Saxon and others, we've added our own support for this as well.
  • Crucible - Inspired by the JetBrains Writerside product, Crucible takes a minimalist Markdown folder structure, transforms documentation into XML and then HTML for static site generation. You can include .NET library XML in it as well. Think 'Jamstack' or 'Gatsby', but more useful :)

Coming Soon

  • PhoenixmlDb - an embedded XML database engine for .NET Core, built on top of the Lightning Memory-Mapped Database (LMDB), a high-performance key-value store. This database engine mimics the architecture of the Oracle Berkeley DB XML database engine, of which I am a big fan. The database engine will include replication and other features, and is currently a work in progress.
  • ConduitXP - an integration platform built on top of the XProc standard. XProc is an XML based programming language for processing documents in pipelines: chaining conversions and other steps together to achieve the desired results. ConduitXP is explicitly designed to mimic BizTalk in many ways, backed with our own XML database engine, and can in its current state successfully parse EDI, JSON and other document types for integration purposes. It's designed so you can literally run it on the cheapest Azure App Service instance you can buy today and still churn out faster results than Data Factory or a Logic App.
  • Phoenixml Platform - this is the monorepo where we keep all of our UI bits at. While these components are currently very much incomplete (and highly dependent on the parsers), it consists of:
    • LSPs and other experimental UI bits for VSCode
    • an experimental xplat "re-imagination" of XML Notepad but with (wait for it) XSLT and XQuery support, among other additional features tied in
  • DrMoustache is a complete skunkworks project where I attempt to answer: 'I want to generate static documentation, but I want to take live objects and feed them into a Moustache template stored in Markdown'. Caveat emptor on that one - I might get around to finishing it, but not today!

SaaS Projects

Pixault

Pixault is a digital asset management platform catering specifically (but not by any means exclusively) to .NET developers looking for a cheap, friendly place to hold images and videos. Inspired by Cloudinary (a very good platform)

Shops Platform

Shops Platform is a portfolio of services for SMB verticals in a wide variety of food and service industries that helps manage appointments and take orders. There are too many details to list here, but it's designed to be as cheap and effective as it can be, to compete with the more predominant players such as Squire, Booksy and others.

Legacy Projects

  • ShoBiz - a tool that automates generating Sandcastle documentation from every angle of a BizTalk project
  • Figaro - In the 2000s I built a C++/CLi wrapper for the Oracle Berkeley DB XML embedded database engine, which I wanted to use for various sundry XML-based projects in the .NET environment. I still have the code for this in case anyone is interested in it, but I've long-since shuttered this whole effort in favor of the PhoenixmlDb XML platform I'm building today.
