Description

OS: Debian 13.6 (The problem only happens in Linux, in Windows it doesn't)
Pi: 0.80.10
@ff-labs/pi-fff: 0.10.0

I have installed pi with Bun and @ff-labs/pi-fff with pi install.
Since fff 0.10.0, the pi extention no longer works in Linux, showing. After launching pi the following message was shown.

Error: FFF init failed: ResolveMessage: Cannot find module '@ff-labs/fff-bun' from '/home/du/.pi/agent/npm/node_modules/@ff-labs/pi-fff/src/sdk.ts'

I found in $HOME/.pi/agent/npm/bun.lock that @ff-labs/fff-node was listed but @ff-labs/fff-bun wasn't.
Current workaround is running bun add @ff-labs/fff-bun inside $HOME/.pi/agent/npm .
It seems pi extension installer couldn't correctly identify if the runtime is node or bun.

What is the way you install pi? Is it node global package, bun global package, prebuilt binary, or oh my pi?

I have installed pi as bun's global package.

bun i -g @earendil-works/pi-coding-agent

Then I use this installed pi to install @ff-labs/pi-fff to the user package (not project package) of pi.

 pi install npm:@ff-labs/pi-fff

As a result, pi-fff exists in ~/.pi/agent/npm/

BTW node is not installed in my machine. Only bun is.

I have the same issue but using mise. mise use -g npm:@earendil-works/pi-coding-agent

Yes, that's one important thing I forgot to mention. I also set "npmCommand": [ "bun" ] in my ~/.pi/agent/settings.json

[triage-bot] REPRODUCED: Reproduced by code inspection on origin/main. Branch: triage-bot/issue-689.

Root cause: PR #669 (d1dac82) added a runtime bun/node switch in packages/pi-fff/src/sdk.ts:26 that dynamically imports @ff-labs/fff-bun on bun hosts, but declared @ff-labs/fff-bun as an optional peer dep in packages/pi-fff/package.json:48-55. bun install (what pi uses under the hood) does not install optional peer deps, so bun-hosted pi ends up with @ff-labs/fff-node but no @ff-labs/fff-bun — the exact tree @lucidfrontier45 saw in ~/.pi/agent/npm/bun.lock.

Steps to reproduce (any OS with bun installed, no global node):

bun i -g @earendil-works/pi-coding-agent
pi install npm:@ff-labs/pi-fff
grep -c '"@ff-labs/fff-bun"' ~/.pi/agent/npm/bun.lock  # → 0
pi           # session_start throws "Cannot find module '@ff-labs/fff-bun'"
