when fails via segFault on OSX it does not delete files in /private/var/tmp

I noticed it took up about 20 Gigs of space when trying to convert a 2 minute movie into a gif and crapped out....I was getting low hard drive space errors so I suspect that I ran of out space which caused the segFault.
