Fixes a batch of reported issues ahead of v0.5.7. Every fix has a regression test that fails before and passes after; all code is maintainer-written.

Electron

Long-form and storage

Dubbing, speech recognition and pronunciation

Recent bugs

Startup, install and sharing

Other

Reported on Discord

  • Voice Design applies edited details, seed and description instead of reusing the saved voice
  • Design explains and blocks engines that can't design from a description
  • NLLB translates every language the pickers offer (Nepali and ~50 more)
  • YouTube downloads no longer fail with "Invalid argument" / "Broken pipe" when the output stream closes
  • "Fix it with an agent" finds CLIs installed in user folders and rescans when the panel opens

Review follow-ups

Behaviour notes

  • Entries pinned to a language re-render the long-form cache once.
  • Re-locked voice takes are retired, then deleted 24 h after nothing references them.
  • Packaged builds point the backend at the bundled web UI (OMNIVOICE_FRONTEND_DIST); non-loopback clients are never redirected to localhost.

Local verification

  • tests/: 9,940 passed
  • backend/tests: 472 passed
  • frontend: 80 passed
  • check:electron: pass, including the packaging contract
  • bun install --frozen-lockfile: OK

Not verified on real hardware: Windows save-rename retry, macOS Rosetta flow, packaged LAN sharing from a second device.

This PR fixes reported issues across Electron networking, audio playback, storage, dubbing, speech recognition, translation, voice design, startup, agent discovery, and LAN sharing. The changes aim to prevent data loss, stale results, and setup failures while improving error reporting and offline behavior. Windows save-rename retries, macOS Rosetta setup, and packaged LAN sharing still need validation on real hardware.

Installed ASR weights now load from their local snapshot directory instead
of by repo id, which asked the Hub for main first: an untimed request that
stalled on a dead network and could not resolve pinned installs offline.
Save-time reference transcription also gets a wall-clock deadline.
…64 download (#2598)

The x64 DMG runs through Rosetta on Apple Silicon, so the managed runtime
resolved macOS x86_64 wheels and failed on torch 2.8.0. Main already gated
Intel Macs, but under Rosetta that gate told an Apple Silicon user their
'Intel Mac' was unsupported and offered only a remote backend.

Detect Rosetta translation (app.runningUnderARM64Translation) and report a
distinct wrong_architecture setup issue: the gate hides the doomed install,
explains the mismatch and links the Apple Silicon download. Docs cover the
uv 'no wheel for macosx_x86_64' error for DMG and source installs.
…start (#2555)

resolveSpawnPlan collapsed two different states into one message: no .venv
at all, and an environment whose import probe failed. The probe's stderr was
discarded, so a user who had already run setup:api got the same 'run
setup:api' advice with nothing to act on or report.

runtimeDependenciesReady now reports the probe's final exception line (or
the launch error) through an optional callback, and the source guard says
'missing' or 'incomplete: <reason>'. Packaged callers are unchanged.
The model-pack warning compared the download plus a hidden 10 GB reserve
against free space but only printed the download, so 4.8 GB needed with
10.2 GB free read as a contradiction. The recommendations panel ignored the
reserve entirely while the installer enforced it. Both now use one helper
fed by the backend's MIN_FREE_GB and name download, reserve and total.
…#2579)

v0.5.6 asked OmniVoice's bundled Whisper to transcribe references over
20 s; main already ranks them with the selected recognizer (#2301). The
inline retry after a failed prompt precompute still passed the whole clip
without a transcript and reached the same error. It now shares the
sidecar's passage selection.
…2382)

Windows access violations and Linux SIGSEGVs leave only Python's
faulthandler dump. The journal kept the first 40 raw lines of the faulting
thread and the report cut that to 1200 characters, so a fault inside a deep
torch Module._apply recursion arrived as eight copies of one torch frame:
the VoiceStudio frame that said which model was loading, and every other
thread (the usual suspect for an overlapping native load), were dropped.
The crash message quoted the last output line instead, which for a native
fault is runpy, an extension-module list or an access log line.

The journal now buffers the whole dump and condenses it at record time:
install prefixes are shortened, recursion collapses to one line, the
faulting thread keeps its innermost and VoiceStudio frames, and each other
thread keeps its innermost and first VoiceStudio frame. Condensing is
idempotent, so the report's second pass keeps the stored excerpt. The
crash message names the fault and where it happened.
Saving a voice design renders its identity sample only when the engine is
already resident, and the render refuses to cold-load if the engine unloads
after that check. Otherwise the sample stays pending until preview (#2583).
tests/backend and tests/smoke purged backend modules on teardown, leaving
fresh twins while modules collected earlier kept the originals. Patching
core.db then missed services.dub_pipeline, failing the combined CI run.
Snapshot and restore module objects and package bindings instead.
The audio-only dub preview streams /dub/download-audio with range
requests, and each request re-mixed the full dub into a new
mixed_dub_<stamp>.wav that was never deleted. A 70-minute dub wrote about
0.8 GB per seek or buffer refill. The mix is now keyed by the background
and track versions, built once under a lock, and older mixes are pruned.
Removing the loaded source (#2314) returns to the import card with its
URL field, but it was disabled while a failed or interrupted run awaited
recovery. The only visible exit was Change file, a file picker, so a
YouTube link could not replace the source. Removal is now available in
that state, and audio sources say Remove audio.
Picking or saving a designed voice linked the draft to it, and every take
kept sending that profile. The backend cloned the profile's saved sample,
so new details, gender and seed barely changed the voice.

The draft now unlinks on any detail, seed or description edit, and starts
unsaved from a preset, personality or demo; a take sends the profile only
while the draft still matches it. /generate designs from the request when
its instruct or seed differs from the design profile's (order-insensitive)
and does not file that take under the profile. Unchanged requests still
re-render the saved sample.
Engines declare supports_voice_design, but the catalogue never exposed it,
so Design could start on IndexTTS2, MOSS v1.5, dots, Confucius4,
Supertonic or OmniVoice GGUF and fail with an engine error.

list_backends now reports supports_voice_design (null when undeclared;
OmniVoice declares true, MOSS-TTS-Nano and GPT-SoVITS false). The Design
workspace explains the limit with a link to the engine settings, onboarding
opens it instead of waiting forever, and /generate answers a design request
on those engines with a 422 before loading anything. Cloning a design
voice's saved sample and plain preset-voice TTS stay allowed.

Comment thread electron/src/main/repair-agents.ts Resolved
Voice Design blocked Generate on any engine that can't design, even when
the linked design profile has a saved sample the backend simply clones.
Gate per request: block only when no linked profile sample is used.
…rofile

A design profile saved without a seed only diverged when the request's
seed differed from a stored one, so an explicit seed silently cloned the
old sample. Count it as divergent; an omitted seed still means the
profile's. The design page now omits its placeholder seed for a linked
seedless profile so re-rendering it keeps cloning the saved sample.
list() ran synchronous which/--version probes (up to 4 s each) on every
call, freezing the main process whenever the dock opened. Probe with
async execFile in parallel, share a scan for 30 s, and rescan when the
panel opens so a newly installed CLI still appears promptly.

… reference audio

A design profile's saved sample is re-rendered by cloning, so engines that
can't read reference audio (KittenTTS, Supertonic-3, Sherpa-ONNX) would
silently speak with a preset voice. Voice Design now keeps Generate blocked
with a localized reason, and /generate answers 422 for any reference clip
(profile sample or upload) on an engine that declares supports_cloning=False.
An uncached CLI lookup is awaited before a repair or translation launch was
marked pending, so repair:stop, stopTranslation or disposal during it was a
no-op and the agent spawned anyway. Repair sessions now start pending before
the lookup and re-check cancellation after it; translations hold a per-launch
token that stop and disposal cancel.
The mount load and the panel-open refresh each list agent CLIs; a slower
older scan could resolve last and overwrite the refreshed list. A shared
sequence now ignores any scan older than the last one applied.

When a remote backend is in the new auth_required state, three brief connection failures take this branch to crashed and end supervision. The app then cannot detect that connectivity has returned without a manual restart; keep remote connection failures in a recoverable state.
