Interactive dotplot tool for DNA and protein sequence comparison

🔗 Try it online: https://dcuentasf.github.io/dotly/

⬇️ Download desktop version: https://github.com/dcuentasf/dotly/releases

🧬 What is Dotly?

Dotly is a simple and interactive tool to visualize similarities between biological sequences using dotplots.

You can compare two sequences (DNA or protein) from FASTA files and explore patterns such as repeats, inversions, and conserved regions.

⚙️ Features

  • Upload two FASTA files

  • Generate dotplots instantly

  • Adjustable:

    • Window size
    • Stringency
  • Web-based version (no installation required)

  • Desktop version in Python

🚀 How to use

Web version

  1. Open the online tool
  2. Upload two FASTA files
  3. Adjust parameters if needed
  4. Generate the dotplot

Desktop version

  1. Download from Releases
  2. Run the Python script
  3. Provide input FASTA files
  4. Adjust parameters

📊 What can you analyze?

  • Sequence similarity
  • Repeats
  • Inversions
  • Conserved regions

🧠 Why Dotly?

Dotly focuses on simplicity and accessibility:

  • No complex setup
  • Fast visualization
  • Works directly in the browser

📌 Notes

Dotly is designed as a lightweight alternative for quick dotplot analysis and visualization.
