x/net v0.56.0 raises the module's go directive to 1.25.0. The builder image, the CI Go version, and the e2e Go version all pinned 1.24, and the Dockerfile runs with GOTOOLCHAIN=local, so every job failed before it reached the code. golangci-lint moves to v2.4.0, the first line built on Go 1.25, so it can load a 1.25 target. Isolated go.mod/go.sum bump (golang.org/x/net v0.45.0 → v0.56.0, indirect dep) plus a routine Go 1.24→1.25 toolchain bump in CI/Dockerfile. Fixes multiple real CVEs (HTTP/2 SETTINGS infinite loop, HTML parser DoS, idna Punycode spoofing, several HTML-tree XSS issues). Version jump is a normal minor-series update, no unrelated changes, all CI checks green. LGTM.

Invoking incorrect handling of namespaced elements in foreign content in golang.org/x/net/html
CVE-2026-42506 / GO-2026-5025
More information
Details
Parsing arbitrary HTML which is then rendered using Render can result in an unexpected HTML tree. This can be leveraged to execute XSS attacks in applications that attempt to sanitize input HTML before rendering.

Invoking failure to reject ASCII-only Punycode-encoded labels in golang.org/x/net/idna
CVE-2026-39821 / GO-2026-5026
More information
Details
The ToASCII and ToUnicode functions incorrectly accept Punycode-encoded labels that decode to an ASCII-only label. For example, ToUnicode("xn--example-.com") incorrectly returns the name "example.com" rather than an error.
This behavior can lead to privilege escalation in programs using the idna package. For example, a program which performs privilege checks on the ASCII hostname may reject "example.com" but permit "xn--example-.com". If that program subsequently converts the ASCII hostname to Unicode, it will inadvertently permits access to the Unicode name "example.com".
