Why

Outcome. Round 1 of the 0.17.x bug sweep: the parser defects triaged from the follow-ups log are fixed in C, C++, C#, Dart, Java, Rust and bash, the group extractors parse .tsx / .jsx with the TSX grammar, and the unrouted Markdown provider is deleted. Each fix ships with a test that is red on the tree before the fix, except the tests marked as guards. There is no NodeKind / RelType change. Graphs change where the old records were wrong: C/C++ files with macro misparses keep their later declarations, file-scope declarations under an ERROR keep their Variable, C# #if groups take one consistent branch per symbol, literal and cast receivers in C# are typed, Dart parameter types are recorded, Java enum constants follow their enum's export, and bash function locals are no longer file-level Const nodes. Door: two-way. One git revert restores the old parsers and the Markdown provider. The parse cache is keyed by BUILDER_FINGERPRINT plus the analyzer-source hash, so the release bump and a revert both re-parse; no stale graph survives. Blast radius: every C, C++, C#, Dart, Java, Rust and bash parse_file, plus make_pipeline and the group extractors. The widest changed symbols in ecp impact --baseline origin/main (non-test upstream): PROVIDER_CONSTRUCTORS 42 (the Markdown entry removed), C# recovery::directive_word 36, directive 33, reduce_group / walk_balances / condition 31-32; all of them end at make_pipeline or the C# parse_file.

Closes FU-2026-10-30-1958e9a1e5cd, 35d49dbe116a, 520106d77de4, 8deec5e170f9, 59be3b506694, 9adc33b1cf3e, cb159240606e, 1c9c272115ea, 917bbe3adeba, 5d25b7f37966, 0712d7fc547e, 399f84cce199; FU-2026-10-25-0a44c90c8c30.

What happened

The triage of FOLLOWUPS.md left 9 bug groups for the parsers. Three edit-only agents fixed them by language, then a Tier-3 review (codex plus correctness, quality, efficiency, reuse and spec reviewers) found 40 issues in the fixes; three more edit-only batches fixed those.

One review finding reversed a fix. The first C# commit named an explicit interface implementation IBag.Remove. That is the exact spelling the receiver typer gives an interface-typed call (ladder.rs:2000), so the same-file tier bound x.Remove() on an IBag to one implementer at confidence 1.0, dropped the edge from other classes in the file, and made ecp find Bag.Remove miss. The naming is reverted; explicit implementations keep the bare member name as on main.

What changed

  • C/C++ (c/parser.rs, c/receiver_types.rs, cpp/parser.rs, cpp/recovery.rs, preproc_fallback.rs): locals after an unterminated macro call are not Variables; a typedef split by a macro, or with an attribute prefix and a pointer, array or qualified declarator, is a Typedef; a global whose semicolon #if removed keeps its Variable; a prototype under ERROR is recovered; a one-line call to a same-file function-like macro with a type argument no longer swallows the rest of the file (file scope only, never a functional cast); a function misread as a direct-init declaration is a Function with its real return type or none; a statement-like loop macro (dictForEach(d, struct T, var, ...)) declares its variable, never over an existing binding; static file-scope variables are not exported in C and C++; one include-guard rule.
  • C# (c_sharp/*, ecp-core/src/analyzer/csharp_extension.rs): #if recovery picks one true/false setting per symbol and checks balance from per-segment depth deltas; literal, cast, as and parenthesized receivers are typed, "..."u8 stays untyped; an explicit interface property names no member by its simple name; one keyword-to-System type table (system_type_name, now in ecp-core).
  • Dart (function_meta/dart.rs): parameter types are recorded for every parameter shape; an old-style function-typed parameter records no type.
  • Java: enum constants follow the export of their enum.
  • Rust (rust/receiver_types.rs): let y = x.clone() takes the return type of a same-file inherent clone (Self / &Self read as the impl type, a raw pointer or Box<Self> stays untyped), only when the type and its one inherent clone sit in one module.
  • bash: assignments inside a function are not file-level Const nodes; containment uses sorted byte ranges.
  • Group extractors (ecp-cli/src/commands/group/extractors): the grammar comes from FileRouter through one helper; .tsx and .jsx parse with TSX, so calls inside JSX attributes are extracted. .js still parses with TSX because ecp-cli has no tree-sitter-javascript dependency; this is unchanged.
  • Registry: the Markdown provider, its tree-sitter-md dependency and the test_md scratch binary are deleted (C5 open point 2); YamlProvider::name() is "yaml", and a test holds every registry key to its provider's name().

How to verify

cargo test -j 4 -p ecp-analyzer --no-fail-fast -- --test-threads=4 # 5354 passed, 0 failed
cargo test -j 4 -p ecp-core --no-fail-fast -- --test-threads=4 # 1357 passed, 0 failed
cargo test -j 4 -p egent-code-plexus --tests --no-fail-fast -- --test-threads=4 # 3060 passed, 0 failed
cargo clippy -j 4 -p ecp-analyzer --tests; cargo clippy -j 4 -p ecp-core --tests; cargo clippy -j 4 -p egent-code-plexus --tests # no warnings

Red before the fix:

  • Whole branch: the HEAD analyzer test files run against the source at 7ed26c5. 40 of the 57 new tests are red. The 17 green ones are edge-state guards (empty or whitespace source, top-level declarations, element access, trait-impl clone) and regression tests for defects the first-round commits introduced and the review commits fixed (C++ macro call in a function body, macro binding over an existing one, C# u8 literals, interface-typed receivers, Rust clone across modules); those cannot be red on 7ed26c5, and they are red on d3bfd7d (below). 15 existing tests are red too: they are the tests whose contract this branch changes (C++ = default / = delete out-of-class constructors, C const qualifiers, C file-scope declarations after recovery, the C driver parity rows).
  • The JSX extractor tests were rewritten in ba2f1e5 because the first fixtures passed on the old grammar; the rewritten ones are red on 7ed26c5.
  • Review fixes: the HEAD test files run against the source at d3bfd7d (before the review fixes). 15 of the 19 new integration tests are red. The 4 green ones are guards: the two bash tests pin a speed-only change, and two Rust tests pin the positive same-module case and the FU's own shadowing shape. Two changed tests are red too, as intended: test_c_const_object_declarations_match_header_kinds (C++ static header variables are no longer exported) and test_cpp_function_misread_as_direct_init_emits_function (the real return type, not the leading macro).
  • The 17 new unit tests inside cpp/recovery.rs and c_sharp/recovery.rs call functions whose signatures changed, so they cannot run against the old source; they are not red-proven.

Review: Tier 3 (HIGH: PROVIDER_CONSTRUCTORS 43 upstream callers) with codex, correctness, quality, efficiency, reuse and spec reviewers; Gemini skipped (quota). All findings at 50 or above are fixed in 71c6d02, 73f9e1e, a7780ed and 88c0ebd.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Node.js HTTP and gRPC extraction now supports TypeScript and TSX syntax across relevant file types.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved recognition of declarations and types in C, C++, Bash, Dart, Java, C#, and Rust, including cases involving incomplete or conditional code.
    • C# call analysis better identifies receiver types for literals, casts, and parenthesized expressions.
  • Changes
    • Markdown analysis is no longer available.

… Rust clone alias, bash function locals, JSX in group extractors

- Dart: a function_signature nested in a function or method body is no
longer emitted as a class-owned Function (FU 2cf259e51deb).
- Dart function metas read the unlabelled parameter type; untyped and
field/super formal parameters are kept (FU 917bbe3adeba). The tests
that froze "" type slots are rewritten.
- Java enum constants follow the export of their enum (FU 5d25b7f37966).
- Rust: let x = y.clone() takes the return type of an inherent clone that
returns another type (FU 7b8ba2b35814, clone half).
- bash: assignments and local declarations inside a function are no
longer file-level Const nodes (FU 0712d7fc547e).
- Group extractors parse .js/.jsx/.tsx with the TSX grammar; only .ts,
.mts and .cts keep the TypeScript grammar (FU 399f84cce199).
…vers, balanced #if recovery

- An explicit interface implementation is named <interface>.<member>
(methods, properties, events, indexers, operators), so it no longer
collides with a same-named member and is no call target for an
ordinary x.Remove() (FU c358a4d7ec1e parser part, FU 755942c857a3).
- String, numeric, char and bool literal receivers are typed by their
System type, so a string extension binds above the 0.5 heuristic
  (FU 933678d6bd56).
- Cast, as and parenthesized receivers take the named type
(FU cdfe6e8cd408; element access stays untyped).
- prepare_source picks, per flagged #if group, the branches that balance
the braces instead of always the first one (FU 1c9c272115ea).
…ecls under ERROR, const and linkage gaps

- C: locals after an unterminated macro call are no longer Variables;
a typedef split by a preceding macro stays a Typedef; a global whose
declaration lost its semicolon to #if keeps its Variable; a prototype
with a trailing macro is a Function (FU 03b1f2768b78, partial).
- C++: a one-line call to a same-file function-like macro with a type
argument no longer swallows the rest of the file (doctest.h, FU
  1958e9a1e5cd).
- C/C++: a function misread as a direct-init declaration is a Function;
  macro_typedef_tail accepts a declaration tail (FU 35d49dbe116a).
- C++: a function after a class closed early by recovery does not take
the class head into its span or type (FU 464550698f55, partial).
- C: a variable bound by a statement-like macro (dictForEach(d, struct
T, var, ...)) is declared with its type (FU 520106d77de4).
- C++: file-scope declarations under an ERROR at brace depth 0 keep
  their Variable, including `static class D {...} x;` (FU 8deec5e170f9,
  FU 59be3b506694).
- C/C++: `T *const x[]` is Const in .c as in .h; macro-prefixed return
types keep their Function (FU 9adc33b1cf3e).
- C: file-scope static variables are not exported; include guards match
  case-insensitively (FU cb159240606e).
- C++: Foo::Foo() {} is a Constructor when its file holds no class Foo
  (FU 9418ba5e834b, first half).
… drop, update tests to the fixed contracts

- C: recovered_prototype_end finds the type child by per-child field name,
because child_by_field_name returns nothing on an ERROR node.
- Dart: keep nested functions as nodes; dropping them contradicts the
lexical-scope plan, which gives them a lexical parent instead.
- Tests that pinned the old, wrong outputs now pin the fixed ones
  (C++ out-of-class '= default'/'= delete' constructors, C const
qualifiers, C# cast receivers); new Java and C# tests corrected.
…rovider by its registry key

The markdown provider was constructed by make_pipeline but no route ever
reached it (C5 open point 2 decided: delete). YamlProvider answered
"YAML" while its registry key and Language::Yaml.provider() are
"yaml"; a new test holds every registry key to the provider's name().
The earlier fixtures put the calls after JSX, where the TypeScript grammar
recovers, so they passed before the fix. Calls inside an onClick handler
are lost by the TypeScript grammar: the HTTP fixture lost fetch("/api/a")
and the gRPC one lost the registration on the base extractors.
It passed on the tree before the rename, so it does not reproduce FU
755942c857a3; the FU's inheritance shape binds nothing yet and moves to
the resolver round with the arity check.
…extractors and the markdown removal

- Rust: an inherent clone returning &Self / *const Self types the alias
as the impl type; an override applies only when the type and its one
inherent clone sit in one module of the file.
- Dart: an old-style function-typed parameter (int cb(String s)) records
no type instead of the callback's return type.
- bash: function containment uses sorted byte ranges, not parent walks.
- Group extractors pick the grammar through FileRouter in one helper.
- Drop tree-sitter-md, the test_md scratch binary and its audit row;
fix the prose that still named the markdown provider.
…ches per symbol, leave u8 literals untyped

- Explicit interface implementations keep their bare member name again:
the qualified name collided with the receiver-typed callee spelling
(IBag.Remove) and bound an interface-typed call to one implementer at
1.0 or dropped it. The duplicate-uid problem (FU c358a4d7ec1e) moves
  to the identity round.
- #if recovery picks one true/false setting per symbol, so groups on the
same symbol never take contradicting branches; balance is checked from
per-segment depth deltas and only the winning setting is blanked.
- "..."u8 literals are ReadOnlySpan<byte>, not String: untyped.
- The keyword-to-System type table lives once, in ecp-core.
…ons, typedef tails and linkage

- The type-argument macro-call pass blanks only at file scope and never
on a functional cast, so calls in function bodies keep their edges.
- A macro argument binds a variable only for the loop-macro shape and
never over a binding the function already has.
- A function misread as a direct-init declaration takes its real return
type, or none, never the leading macro.
- An attribute-prefixed typedef tail with a pointer, array or qualified
  declarator is a Typedef.
- A class-specifier declaration whose only error is in the class body
  keeps its Variable (FU 59be3b506694).
- C++ static file-scope variables in headers are not exported.
- One include-guard spelling rule, shared missing-token and void helpers;
file-scope checks run before the sibling walks.
…raw-pointer clone stays untyped

The explicit-interface naming revert left declares_member matching the bare
property name. Record explicit property declarations in LocalTypes and skip
them there. A clone returning *const Self never auto-derefs for a method
call, so the alias stays untyped; the test now says so.

Walkthrough

The pull request updates parsing and receiver typing across several languages, removes the Markdown provider and its Tree-sitter dependency, and changes Node HTTP and gRPC extractors to select TypeScript or TSX grammars based on file paths.

Changes: Analyzer parser behavior

Layer / File(s) Summary
Bash top-level constants
crates/ecp-analyzer/src/bash/parser.rs, crates/ecp-analyzer/tests/bash_parser_fixes.rs
Bash parsing skips constant captures inside function bodies. Top-level duplicate-name handling remains in place. Regression tests cover nested and conditional function shapes.
C declarations and recovery
crates/ecp-analyzer/src/c/parser.rs, crates/ecp-analyzer/src/c/queries.scm, crates/ecp-analyzer/src/c/receiver_types.rs, crates/ecp-analyzer/src/preproc_fallback.rs, crates/ecp-analyzer/tests/c_*
C parsing distinguishes const objects from variables, excludes static declarations from exports, recognizes additional include-guard spellings, and recovers declarations and typedefs split by parse errors. Macro-bound variables can contribute types to indirect-dispatch detection.
C++ declaration recovery
crates/ecp-analyzer/src/cpp/*, crates/ecp-analyzer/tests/cpp_*
C++ parsing handles additional error-recovered declarations, typedef tails, and out-of-class constructors. Source preparation blanks qualifying file-scope macro calls with type arguments before initializer-list conditional handling.
C# conditional compilation recovery
crates/ecp-analyzer/src/c_sharp/recovery.rs, crates/ecp-analyzer/tests/csharp_parser_fixes.rs
Source preparation searches shared symbol settings for conditional branches that balance braces, with a bounded search and fallback behavior. Tests cover repeated symbol groups and recovery cases.
C# receiver typing
crates/ecp-analyzer/src/c_sharp/receiver_types.rs, crates/ecp-core/src/analyzer/csharp_extension.rs, crates/ecp-analyzer/tests/csharp_receiver_typing.rs, crates/ecp-analyzer/tests/csharp_value_receiver.rs, crates/ecp-analyzer/tests/receiver_typing_support/mod.rs
Receiver typing adds support for literals, casts, and parentheses, and excludes explicit-interface properties from ordinary member-name lookup. Extension matching uses the shared system_type_name function.
Rust inherent clone alias typing
crates/ecp-analyzer/src/rust/receiver_types.rs, crates/ecp-analyzer/tests/rust_parser_fixes.rs
Local aliases initialized with recognized inherent .clone() calls use an unambiguous recorded return type; unsupported return forms can leave the alias untyped.
Dart, Java, and YAML metadata
crates/ecp-analyzer/src/function_meta/dart.rs, crates/ecp-analyzer/src/java/parser.rs, crates/ecp-analyzer/src/yaml/parser.rs, crates/ecp-analyzer/tests/functionmeta_dart.rs, crates/ecp-analyzer/tests/java_parser_fixes.rs
Dart parameter extraction handles field and super formals and function-typed parameters. Java enum constants inherit export status from their enum. The YAML provider name changes to lowercase.

Markdown provider removal

Layer / File(s) Summary
Provider removal and routing records
crates/ecp-analyzer/Cargo.toml, crates/ecp-analyzer/src/bin/test_md.rs, crates/ecp-analyzer/src/lib.rs, crates/ecp-analyzer/src/markdown/*, crates/ecp-analyzer/tests/grammar_abi_audit.rs, crates/ecp-cli/src/provider_registry.rs, crates/ecp-cli/src/commands/admin/index.rs, crates/ecp-cli/tests/impact_baseline_scoped_pipeline.rs, docs/specs/*
The Markdown provider, parser, queries, test binary, and dependency are removed. The provider registry and grammar audit no longer include Markdown, and related comments and routing notes reflect the removal. The registry test also checks provider names against registry keys.

Node extractor grammar selection

Layer / File(s) Summary
Path-based grammar and query selection
crates/ecp-cli/src/commands/group/extractors/*
The HTTP and gRPC extractors select a TypeScript or TSX dialect based on the file path. Each dialect uses its matching grammar and compiled queries.
Extractor coverage
crates/ecp-cli/tests/group_extract_node_*
Tests cover JSX extraction across TSX, JSX, JS, and MJS paths, TypeScript files with type assertions, and empty inputs.

Dart class methods will not get parameter types recorded, which defeats the stated purpose of the Dart fix for the most common method form. C# calls on ((dynamic)x).M() can lose graph edges they previously resolved. Both are localized; fix the Dart parameter lookup before merging, and the dynamic case is a small follow-up.

Docstring coverage is 72.50% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 80 functions across 34 files. (3 skipped: 3 unsupported.)

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

Major · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Find parameter lists inside class method signatures.

For class C { void f(int x) {} }, extract_params returns an empty list. The method’s formal_parameter_list is under method_signature, which this lookup does not inspect. As a result, the new [name, type] extraction cannot record x or int for class methods. Descend through method_signature before calling collect_param_list, and cover a class method in the parameter-type tests. The Dart query captures the enclosing method_declaration as the method node. Update the parameter-list lookup in extract_params to descend through
method_signature before calling collect_param_list, so class method parameters
are captured; add a class-method case to the parameter-type tests verifying both
the parameter name and type.

dynamic parses as an identifier, so a cast or as to dynamic, and a
dynamic parameter, local or field, typed the value as dynamic and emitted
dynamic.M, losing the resolver's member fallback. One class_type_name
helper now reads a plain class-name type for all four sites and rejects
dynamic.
