Los sensores de radar, a diferencia de los sensores de movimiento PIR, pueden colocarse detrás de un material no transparente y aun así pueden detectar el movimiento de forma fiable. Emplean ondas de radio para detectar la presencia de objetos (en movimiento).
Un módulo de radar común compatible con Arduino, ESP32 y otros es el RCWL-0516, un sensor de proximidad de microondas que es popular debido a su bajo costo y rango de detección relativamente largo.
Los sensores de radar, como el RCWL-0516, pueden detectar movimiento a través de la pared y tienen un radio de detección de 360 grados. Aunque estarán bloqueados por un blindaje metálico. Debido al largo alcance (varios metros) y al amplio ángulo de detección, no se deben colocar varios sensores juntos. Interferirán entre sí.
