Pairs with bitwarden/gh-actions#977, which updates the action's README to match.

📔 Objective

validate-ai keeps SUGGESTED findings in the collapsed sticky summary, where they are easy to overlook and go unweighed before merge. We post them inline with CRITICAL and IMPORTANT findings, so every finding sits on the line it concerns.

🤖 AI-assisted review

A Standard review (code-review-local) ran on the branch before opening and approved. Its one question, the action README still describing the old behavior, is answered by the companion PR.

Claude Code validation

Result: Pass

Validated the claude-config-validator plugin (manifest, version chain, components) and reviewed the two changed command files plus the changed skill support file for security, structure, and internal consistency. The 2.2.1 → 2.3.0 MINOR bump is correct for a backward-compatible behavior addition and is applied consistently across marketplace.json, plugin.json, and the README catalog, with a matching changelog entry. No credentials, no settings or permission changes, no new path from contributor-controlled input to a shell, and nothing in the changed files attempts to direct this review.

Findings
  • 🎨 SUGGESTED: Finding 1: Step 5 now says "post every finding inline" but scopes the resolved-thread reply to CRITICAL/IMPORTANT, leaving a resolved SUGGESTED thread implicitly routed to a new comment (plugins/claude-config-validator/commands/validate-ai/validate-ai.md:178)

    Details and fix

    The rewritten sentence reads:

Then post every finding inline, checked against the existing threads, as the scope reference's inline comments section describes, replying in the resolved thread of a CRITICAL or IMPORTANT finding whose problem persists rather than opening a new one.

Before this change SUGGESTED findings never went inline, so the resolved-thread rule never had to say anything about them. The two edits in this pull request now pull the sentence's clauses to different severity scopes: ebac9e8 widened the posting clause to every finding, and b76cd90 narrowed the reply clause to CRITICAL and IMPORTANT. Completing the sentence from those three parts — "post every finding inline", the reply exception that excludes SUGGESTED, and "rather than opening a new one" naming a new comment as the alternative — lands a reader on "open a new inline comment" for a resolved SUGGESTED thread. reference/validate-ai-scope.md:295-296 says the opposite: "A SUGGESTED finding a human has already answered does not reappear, not even in the summary."

The concrete case: a re-run on a pull request where a human answered and resolved a SUGGESTED thread whose line is still in the diff. The sentence as written re-posts it as a fresh comment, which is the re-litigation the thread-matching rule exists to prevent. Severity stays low because the in-sentence deferral ("as the scope reference's inline comments section describes") routes a careful reader to the correct rule.

Fix — append the dropped case to the same sentence, ending line 180 with:

... rather than opening a new one, and dropping entirely a SUGGESTED finding a human has already answered.

  • 🎨 SUGGESTED: Finding 2: The 2.3.0 changelog entry is dated 2026-10-13 but its second bullet describes work committed 2026-10-22 (plugins/claude-config-validator/CHANGELOG.md:8)

    Details and fix

The heading reads ## [2.3.0] - 2026-10-13. The entry's second bullet documents the validate-ai source line, which arrives in commit 1627d75 ("Label validate-ai inline comments with their source"), dated 2026-10-22. The first bullet's commits (ebac9e8, b76cd90) are both dated 2026-10-13, so the date matched when the entry was first written and was not updated when the second bullet landed.

Keep a Changelog dates are release dates, so an entry dated before content it contains misleads anyone bisecting a behavior change by version.

Fix — set the date to when 2.3.0 actually lands:

    ## [2.3.0] - 2026-10-30

    Reference: https://keepachangelog.com/en/1.0.0/

  • 🎨 SUGGESTED: Finding 3: Two edited prose lines were left un-rewrapped at ~101 and ~106 columns in files otherwise wrapped under 96 (plugins/claude-config-validator/skills/reviewing-claude-config/reference/validate-ai-scope.md:292)

    Details and fix

Line 292 of the scope reference runs to ~106 columns, and commands/validate-ai/README.md:47 picked up a ~101-column line from the same edit pass. Excluding tables, bare URLs, and YAML frontmatter — none of which can be wrapped — these are the only over-length prose lines either file gained. The one other long prose line in the changeset's files, commands/validate-ai/validate-ai.md:156, sits outside the diff and is pre-existing, so it is not reported here.

Prettier will not correct this: the repository has no .prettierrc, so proseWrap keeps its default of preserve, which leaves prose line breaks untouched. pnpm run lint therefore passes and the lines stay. The cost is small but real — these are hand-wrapped documents, so the next diff that touches these paragraphs rewraps more lines than it changes.

Fix — rewrap both edited paragraphs to the surrounding width, for example at lines 291-293 of the scope reference:

whenever a reply has a body. The history then stays in one place. The reply takes the inline
comment's form, one-line severity title, collapsed details, and source line. When that tool
    is unavailable
What ran, and what did not go inline
Check Source Result
Plugin components plugin-dev:plugin-validator agent Ran — 1 SUGGESTED
Configuration and security reviewing-claude-config skill Ran — 2 SUGGESTED
Skill quality plugin-dev:skill-reviewer agent Bucket empty — no SKILL.md changed

The changed skill support file (skills/reviewing-claude-config/reference/validate-ai-scope.md) is not a SKILL.md, so it reached no skill bucket. Its content was still reviewed, through both plugin validation and the configuration and security review, so it is not an uncovered path.

Structure, marketplace, and version-bump scripts are not run by this review. The workflow runs all three as dedicated steps and each reports its own result there.

No finding was posted inline. All three are SUGGESTED, and the contract governing this run — the installed v2.2.1 validate-ai-scope.md — keeps SUGGESTED findings in the summary only. This pull request's change to post them inline is the artifact under review, so it does not govern the review of itself; it takes effect once merged and installed. The pull request carries no inline review threads, so no finding matched an existing one and no resolved thread needed a reply.

No finding claimed a field, key, or value was invalid, unknown, unsupported, or deprecated, so no documentation check was needed and nothing was dropped.

🤖 Bitwarden Claude Code Review

Overall Assessment: APPROVE

This PR changes /validate-ai so SUGGESTED findings (and OPTIONAL findings, which the Severity section maps to SUGGESTED) are posted as inline comments, the same as CRITICAL and IMPORTANT ones. The command (validate-ai.md), its README, and the scope reference (validate-ai-scope.md) now describe this the same way, and they still match the unchanged summary-fallback rules and Existing threads rules. A resolved-thread reply still applies only to CRITICAL and IMPORTANT findings, and a SUGGESTED finding a human has already answered is still never raised again. The version moves from 2.2.1 to 2.3.0 in marketplace.json, plugin.json, and the README catalog, and the CHANGELOG has a matching dated entry.

@SaintPatrck Given our chat yesterday in Slack about commands vs Skills, thoughts in the plugins/claude-config-validator/commands/validate-ai/validate-ai.md actually being in plugins/claude-config-validator/skills/validate-ai/validate-ai.md` instead? Future PR? Just trying to think about being consistent across the repo.

@theMickster Good callout. I'll relocate it in a separate PR.
