Release v1.9.7: move agent skills back to .claude/skills so they are discoverable - #68

…discoverable record-tui-gif, publish-cover, capture-tui-diagram and run-actop were moved from .claude/skills/ to .agents/skills/ in the 1.4.x docs reorg. Claude Code discovers project skills only under .claude/skills/, so from that point on none of the four were ever offered to the agent. They stayed correct, committed, and unused — followed only when someone happened to grep them out of the tree. audit-conformance stayed behind in .claude/skills/ and kept working, which is what made the breakage hard to notice: one skill worked, four silently did not. Moves all four back, rewrites their internal .agents/skills/... path references, and records the constraint in CLAUDE.md so a future "consolidation" does not silently re-break discovery. The skills were committed, correct, and never used
record-tui-gif,publish-cover,capture-tui-diagram, andrun-actopwere moved out of.claude/skills/in the 1.4.x docs reorg:Claude Code discovers project skills only under
.claude/skills/(plus~/.claude/skills/and plugins)..agents/is not a path it reads. From that reorg onward none of the four were ever offered to the agent — they were followed only when someone happened to grep them out of the tree, which is exactly what happened twice this week (the hero GIF and the cover publish, both after work had already started down a different path). Why it went unnoticed:
audit-conformancewas left behind in.claude/skills/and kept working. One skill worked and four didn't, so the surface looked functional.Controlled comparison, same repo and same session:
.claude/skills/audit-conformance.agents/skills/Change
git mvall four back to.claude/skills/;.agents/is now empty and removed..agents/skills/...paths baked intoSKILL.md,record.sh, andactop-demo.tape(12 references) so the documented commands work from the new location.CLAUDE.mdstates the constraint explicitly, so a future reorg doesn't silently re-break discovery. HistoricalCHANGELOGentries are left as written — they record what happened at the time.Verified
The four appeared in the agent's skill listing immediately after the move, without a restart. Moved scripts still run from their new paths:
Note on the symlink alternative
Keeping
.agents/as a cross-tool home and symlinking into.claude/skills/was considered and rejected: whether the loader follows symlinks could not be verified without a session restart, and a silent discovery failure is precisely the bug being fixed here. If another tool needs.agents/, give it a copy and leave.claude/skills/as the real home.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
