why do we have copyrights in Apache Source Headers? #638
This is non-standard. And causes annual pain with updating the years.
We have a NOTICE file. That has a copyright with a year. There is no reason to have it in source header.
Can we remove it from the source headers? It needs to remain if the code is from a 3rd party source but our LICENSE file mentions no such sources with Apache licenses. And we shouldn't modify them if they are from 3rd party source - so the 2026 change in PR 633 would need to be reverted.
PR #651 replaced the non-standard copyright headers across the codebase, and #637 updated the NOTICE file. I verified the 0.42.0 release prep covered this. Should be safe to close.

Yes this is not ideal. Will remove.

Correct - we do not keep copyright information in the source files - just licence headers and year only in NOTICE.

@elijahbenizzy would it be possible to fix this for 0.41.1?

@pjfanning @potiuk yes I am preparing a release with this now! Will be 0.42.0 as we have a small new feature :)

@elijahbenizzy @skrawcz copyright headers were cleaned up in PR #651 and NOTICE updated in #637, both merged into 0.42.0. Safe to close this one.
