Switch to a MinIO alternative

Clear and concise description of the problem

I was not sure if this is supposed to be a feature request or a (potentially future) security issue, I decided to go for a feature request.

MinIO has been though a lot of shady moves for the last months, before finally anouncing their open source version as unmaintained last week in minio/minio@7aac2a2, promoting their paid version as a replacement:

THIS REPOSITORY IS NO LONGER MAINTAINED.

Alternatives:

[AIStor Free](https://min.io/download) — Full-featured, standalone edition for community use (free license)
[AIStor Enterprise](https://min.io/pricing) — Distributed edition with commercial support

The self-hosted AnyType stack is still using MinIO, which will likely cause issues in the future.

Suggested solution

Therefore, are you considering switching to a more open (and maintained) alternative? (some are listed on https://selfh.st/apps/?alternative=MinIO)

Alternative

It should be possible to switch manually the container in the docker compose for an alternative with an identical interface, but it would be better if this could be officially supported (including the migration steps) rather than letting the user do it on their own.

thank you for the information. I wasn't following the news about minio and didn't know that maintenance had been stopped.
so probably we should switch from minio to another self-hosted s3 solution. the main problem is the manual migration for users...
we'll look into this

Garage is probably the closest alternative for most self-hosting use cases. SeaweedFS is good too. It's a bit more complex, but its design (based on papers and designs from Facebook and Google) means it handles large numbers of small files better than most other alternatives.

Rustfs has had a bunch of basic security vulnerabilities, and a lot of the code is low-quality AI-written code, so I'd avoid it.

Of course, there's also the option of updating any-sync to not have tight coupling with S3. For example, add a storage abstraction layer that allows either S3 or the local file system to be used.

Regarding features, they already cover a lot of S3 functionality.

In addition to being very new, I've seen multiple accusations of it being mostly vibe-coded (without much sources though), and using questionable coding practices (like hard-coding an authentication bypass token GHSA-h956-rh7x-ppgj a few months ago, that some people even called a backdoor).

I'm not saying RustFS is not an option, I haven't really checked any of this in details, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

To be honest, I can't imagine somebody seriously tries to insert a "backdoor" this easily spottable in open source code. And it has been spotted. I would rather not trust closed code, regardless of the country it's coming from.
