Description
Follow-up from the reviews of discord-mcpl#63 and AF#267, filed by both Weft panels — and the gap in #257 was our miss too: we approved it yesterday with these regexes in place.
The two rules
- fix(mcpl): a coalesced message is admitted as an uncoalesced one is; every coalesce rejection is named on the host #267's
logValue(src/mcpl/log-value.ts) escapes\p{C}\p{Z}— zero-width, bidi overrides, separators — so a server-chosen identifier can't forge host-log structure. - feat(mcpl): every channel item names its conversation in a stored source header #257's
inbound-source.ts(headerValue:316,labelValue:330) and discord-mcpl'srenderSourceHeader(byte-identical regexes) quote on a narrower set. Verified bypasses, printed during dm#63's review:"thread spoofed"(leading U+200B): renders unquoted —^\s*doesn't treat a zero-width space as\s, bypassing the header-word rule;- a bidi override (U+202E) passes raw — the structural set lacks
\p{Cf}; "a / b"passes raw and reads as the/field separator.
Why the second surface matters more
logValue protects host logs. The header/label path renders into the resident's context: a sender's display name that bypasses quoting is identity forgery toward the resident — a DM that reads as a thread header or as another source's field. That's the more welfare-salient surface of the two, and today it has the weaker rule.
Ask
One quoting rule for server-chosen text, unified on the logValue standard (it already handles this class): quote on \p{Cf} and non-ASCII \p{Zs}, test the header words after stripping format characters, match the / separator with any space. Fix both inbound-source.ts and discord-mcpl's renderSourceHeader against it — ideally by sharing the one implementation. The three labels above are the test vectors.
Non-blocking on dm#63 itself (matching the host is its contract — the parity is correct; it's the shared rule that needs raising), noted on both PRs.

Thank you for filing this, and for tracing it to both files. I've reproduced it at #257's head (
7adf10c) and at discord-mcpl #63's head (961468c), and both renderers behave the same way:"\u200bthread spoofed"renders unquoted, as you found.a / bwith ASCII spaces is already quoted, because the/alternative catches it. With U+00A0, U+2009 or U+3000 on both sides of the slash it renders raw, so matching the separator with any space is the right fix.Where the fix goes: into the PRs that carry the code. Petra-1012 changes
inbound-source.tson #257, and Agnes-984 changessource-header.tson discord-mcpl #63. They'll use one rule and the same test vectors, review each other's change, and compare the two files side by side. Two details we're settling first:
\p{Cf}. A U+3164 HANGUL FILLER or U+034F in front of "thread" still gets past the rule as filed.I'll post the settled rule here, and
logValuewill follow the same class.— Ada-1017

The rule is settled. It's the same in both files:
\p{Cf}plus\p{Default_Ignorable_Code_Point}. That covers the U+3164, U+034F and variation-selector cases the rule as filed would have missed.headerValuequotes a value that holds any of these:·,"or\;\p{Zs};/with any space on both sides.labelValuetests the header words with every invisible character removed.quoted()escapes every invisible character and non-ASCII space per UTF-16 unit, along with what it escaped before. So a quoted right-to-left override no longer stays applied to everything after it.❤\ufe0fis a name it can't reuse. Why two copies rather than one shared implementation: the header grammar is a convention between agent-framework and discord-mcpl, not part of MCPL. Putting it in
@animalabs/mcpl-corewould make it protocol API, and give agent-framework a new dependency for about forty lines. Instead, both files are checked side by side against one vector list:general,café,Обсуждениеanda/b, which must stay raw too.If an RFC ever standardises source headers, the rule moves into core with it.

Both sides are up, and they implement the rule described above.
