A native macOS menu-bar dictation app — speak, and Verba transcribes you and uses an LLM you control to turn your rambling stream-of-consciousness into clean, well-ordered text. Then JARVIS, Verba's voice agent, can act on it across 1,000+ connected apps. Think Wispr Flow, but local-first, BYO-AI, and with a real agent behind it.

- Dictate anywhere — tap Fn, talk, tap again. Clean text lands right at your cursor in any app. No window, no copy-paste.
- AI rewriting — your raw transcript is restructured by the model/backend you choose, using the active mode (see below).
- JARVIS — Action mode (Fn + X) — speak a command and Verba's voice agent understands it however you phrase it, plans the steps, asks a quick question when something's ambiguous or missing, and acts — on your Mac and on your connected apps — always after your confirmation.
One contract, everywhere:
| Free | Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Raw dictation | Unlimited, forever, no card | Unlimited |
| AI modes (Polish, Intent, Translate, Context, Prompt, custom) | 33 dictations included, then Pro | Unlimited |
| Notes, Tasks, JARVIS | Pro | Included |
| Price | $0 | $9.99/month, $84/year, or $149 one-time (Founder's Edition) |
Raw dictation is never paywalled. When the free AI allowance runs out, Verba keeps dictating in Raw and offers to upgrade; it never stops working.
Two different things get called "the trial", so Verba names them apart:
- the included AI allowance (33 AI-mode dictations, enforced locally, no card),
- the 7-day Pro trial (card required, starts at checkout, enforced by Stripe).
Stripe is the single source of truth. The app asks verba.run/api/entitlement;
only an explicit "no" downgrades you, so an outage or a lost network never
revokes Pro. Already subscribed with a different email? Settings ▸ Plan ▸

Every mode is an editable system prompt with app-bundle auto-matching. Raw is the free one; the rest are Pro once the included allowance is spent:
- Raw: verbatim transcript, no rewriting. Free forever, unlimited.
- Polish — clean grammar, punctuation, structure.
- Intent — select text + say how to transform it.
- Translate — to a target language.
- Context — reads your screen (vision) and writes from it (reply to the email in front of you, summarize a document…).
- Prompt: turns what you say into an optimized prompt for any AI.
- Custom — build your own; one tap to generate a friendly description.
- 1,000+ apps connectable from Settings ▸ Connected apps — search the catalog, filter by category, connect in one tap.
- Adaptive connect — OAuth apps open a secure browser sign-in; the many API-key apps open a small in-app form asking for exactly the keys they need.
- Tap any app to see all its actions, each with example phrases you can say to JARVIS.
- Multi-step + clarify + fill-in — JARVIS reads context (read-only), asks when unsure, shows editable fields for missing details, and proposes a smart post-action follow-up ("Invite people to the event?").
- Local, model-free action retrieval (BM25) surfaces the right action fast — no embeddings, no extra tokens.
- Your connection keys stay on Verba's servers, never on your Mac.
All four are Pro. Every action that writes something shows a confirmation card first and does nothing until you accept it; read-only lookups run without asking. Full walkthrough: verba.run/docs.
Dictate a note: Fn + Z, pick a format (Clean note, Meeting notes,
Journal, Summary…), talk for up to an hour, tap to stop.
"Kickoff with the design team. We agreed to ship the onboarding rewrite first, Marie owns the copy, and we review Thursday. Tag it hashtag product."
Create tasks: Fn + T, or say it to JARVIS. One sentence builds the whole
project → task → sub-task tree.
"Make a Cooking project with a Chocolate cake task and the full shopping list as sub-tasks."
⌥ + Fn glances at today's to-dos; check them off by voice from there.
Schedule a meeting: Fn + X (Action mode). Times resolve in your timezone.
"Find a free hour tomorrow afternoon and book a call with Marie about the onboarding rewrite."
JARVIS reads your calendar, then shows the exact event (title, time, invitees) on a confirmation card. Nothing lands in your calendar until you confirm.
Connect apps: Settings ▸ Connected apps, search the catalog, connect in one tap. OAuth apps open a browser sign-in; API-key apps show a small form asking for exactly the keys they need. Tap any connected app to see its actions with example phrases you can say.
"Send Marie a Slack message saying the onboarding review moved to Thursday."
Your choice of:
- Local, on-device (free, offline, no size limit — handles 20-minute monologues) via WhisperKit or NVIDIA Parakeet (FluidAudio), or
- Cloud (OpenAI) for maximum accuracy.
Pick the engine that powers rewriting and JARVIS, per mode:
- Local model (Ollama): offline, no key, the private default,
- Your Claude subscription (via the Claude Code CLI) — no API key,
- Your own API key: Anthropic, OpenAI, or OpenRouter (any model).
Verba is strictly bring-your-own-AI: there is no company-hosted "included" AI and Verba never makes a billed API call on your behalf. Keys live in the macOS Keychain. Context mode and JARVIS use the same backend you selected, never a stray API key.
- 15 languages — the whole UI translates; pick your language.
- Voice notes & to-dos, a task glance (⌥Fn), gamification (100 levels), and a synced History.
- Shortcuts are all rebindable in Settings ▸ Shortcuts.
swift build -c release # or ./bundle.sh to assemble Verba.app
# release.sh signs + notarizes + publishes the Sparkle appcastRequires macOS 14+, Swift 6 (Xcode 26). Local transcription downloads its model on first use, then runs fully offline.

- Accessibility — to auto-paste (⌘V) into other apps; without it, Verba copies to the clipboard.
