Previously the hook short-circuited inside queryFn: ({ signal }) => enabled ? getVsCodeLmModels(signal) : []. That let React Query cache an empty array under the shared query key for non-vscodeLm providers, so switching back to vscodeLm could read the stale empty cache instead of re-issuing the request. Now enabled is passed as a top-level useQuery option, so TanStack Query simply does not invoke queryFn when disabled.
Disabled spec now asserts both vscode.postMessage and window.addEventListener('message') are untouched after fetchStatus settles to idle, proving queryFn never runs rather than returning [].

Adds a searchable chat model selector to the chat input bar so users can switch the model for the active API profile without leaving the chat.

When the provider switches, React Query aborts the pendingAbortSignal, the hook'ssettledflag short-circuits any late resolution, and the previous message listener is removed synchronously — a stale response therefore cannot repopulate the newly selected provider. OpenAI-compatible providers leave the loading state on empty or failed responses.Out of scope for this PR: any change to
