A temporary workaround for the Codex account-switch error in Cockpit Tools 1.3.25 on Windows.
Cockpit calls codex app-server daemon stop before switching accounts. That daemon command is not supported on Windows, so the switch fails with Access denied (os error 5) or exit code 1.
This small wrapper skips only that exact command and passes every other Codex command through unchanged.
The full account-switch flow was tested successfully.
Download the ZIP or standalone EXE from the latest release.
The prebuilt EXE is unsigned. Source code and SHA-256 checksums are included so you can inspect or build it yourself.
- Fully close Cockpit Tools, including its tray icon.
- Download and extract the release ZIP.
- Run
Launch-CockpitToolsWithWorkaround.cmd. - Switch the account normally in Cockpit Tools.
The launcher sets CODEX_APP_SERVER_EXECUTABLE only for that Cockpit process. It does not create a permanent environment variable and does not switch the account by itself.
It returns exit code 0 only for:
app-server daemon stop
Everything else is passed to:
%USERPROFILE%\.codex\plugins\.plugin-appserver\codex.exe
The wrapper does not read or modify auth.json.

This is only a temporary workaround. Use an official Cockpit Tools release containing the Windows fix when one becomes available.
