Potential fix for https://github.com/Twigpine/openclaude/security/code-scanning/70

General fix: replace fast hash use (createHash('sha256')) on secret-derived input with a slower password hashing/KDF primitive approved by the rule (e.g., PBKDF2/scrypt/Argon2/bcrypt).

Best single-file fix here: in src/integrations/aimlapi/topupState.ts, update aimlapiByKeyIdentity to derive the identity using pbkdf2Sync with a fixed application/domain salt and sufficiently high iterations, then encode as hex. This keeps deterministic output (required by existing matching logic) while addressing “insufficient computational effort.” Also update the crypto import to include pbkdf2Sync and remove createHash if no longer used in shown snippet.

Change region:

  • Import line near top (node:crypto)
  • Function aimlapiByKeyIdentity (around lines 571–573)

No changes are needed in ProviderManager.tsx; all variants flow to this same sink and will be fixed centrally.

Suggested fixes powered by Copilot Autofix. Review carefully before merging.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Security
    • AI/ML API key identities now use keyed hashing, strengthening protection while preserving the existing identity format.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Saved top-up receipts created with the previous identity format can still be matched and resumed when the corresponding API key is supplied. In-progress checkouts are migrated when eligible; migration is deferred while a key-mint or exchange lease is active.

📝 Walkthrough

The by-key identity now uses HMAC-SHA-256. Reconciliation and claims can migrate matching legacy receipts, except while a mint or exchange lease is live. ProviderManager passes the API key to by-key claims.

Changes: AI/ML API key identity and receipt migration

Layer / File(s) Summary
Derive current identity and recognize legacy receipts
src/integrations/aimlapi/topupState.ts, src/integrations/aimlapi/topupState.test.ts
The current identity uses HMAC-SHA-256 with a fixed label and retains the key: prefix. A legacy SHA-256 identity helper recognizes older receipts. Tests check a known identity and distinguish different keys.
Migrate matching receipts during reconciliation and claims
src/integrations/aimlapi/topupState.ts, src/integrations/aimlapi/topupState.test.ts
Reconciliation and by-key claims migrate matching legacy receipts under the lock. Migration is skipped when a mint or exchange lease is live. Tests cover credential matching, receipt states, and lease behavior.
Pass the API key with by-key claims
src/components/ProviderManager.tsx, src/components/ProviderManager.test.tsx
ProviderManager supplies the API key in the claim options for by-key top-ups. The test observes the claim and checks its identity and options.

Full details: Risk Surface Disclosed

Explanation

The PR changes API-key identity and top-up claim/reconciliation behavior, which affects credential handling and provider/payment integration. The review calls out this risk surface through the security-alert description and the Data Integrity & Integration findings. It also identifies the compatibility issue as Severity Major, so the potential blocker is disclosed.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description explains the alert and the intended cryptographic change, but it does not follow the required template. It omits the Summary, Impact, Testing, and Notes sections, including test commands, preflight status, focused tests, and known limitations.

Resolution

Rewrite the description using the required sections. Document the implemented HMAC-SHA-256 approach and legacy receipt migration, user-facing and maintainer impact, exact test commands and results, local preflight status, skipped checks or limitations, provider/model paths tested, and follow-up work.

Full details: No Hidden Policy Change

Explanation

The PR changes the trust policy for top-up receipt ownership and recovery. aimlapiByKeyIdentity changes from plain SHA-256 to HMAC-SHA256. migrateLegacyByKeyIdentityUnlocked then rewrites a legacy receipt when the caller supplies a matching API key, and both reconciliation and claims can adopt that receipt. ProviderManager now passes the API key through byKeyApiKey. The authored PR description proposes PBKDF2 and says no ProviderManager.tsx changes are needed. It does not document or request alignment on HMAC-based identity or legacy receipt adoption.

Resolution

Obtain explicit maintainer/security approval for the HMAC identity and the legacy-receipt migration policy. Document that possession of the matching API key authorizes adoption and settled-receipt cleanup, including the lease exceptions. Update the PR description to match the implementation, or remove the unapproved migration and policy change.

Comment thread src/integrations/aimlapi/topupState.ts Outdated
The autofix replaced the SHA-256 by-key fingerprint with a synchronous
210k-iteration PBKDF2. That stalls the Ink event loop before the async state
lock is reached, and it silently changed the persisted identity: a by-key
receipt written by an earlier version no longer matched, so reconciliation
left it in place and a re-run of the same top-up was refused forever
("already succeeded and is waiting to be saved").

- aimlapiByKeyIdentity is now an HMAC-SHA256 keyed by the credential over a
fixed label: cheap on the interactive path, domain-separated, and the key
is never the hashed input. A known-answer test pins the value.
- Receipts carrying the legacy `key:<sha256>` fingerprint are rewritten to
the current identity under the state lock, both in
reconcileSettledAimlapiTopupStateAsync and in the by-key claim (new
`byKeyApiKey` claim option, passed by ProviderManager), so every CAS after
the claim matches. Skipped while a mint/exchange lease is live.

The supplied evidence supports a reachable compatibility failure. migrateLegacyByKeyIdentityUnlocked rewrites an unsettled legacy receipt when it has no mint or exchange lease, even when resumeSessionToken identifies an active checkout. The existing in-flight adoption test covers a new claim that adopts the migrated receipt; it does not protect an earlier owner that still uses the legacy intent. That owner’s later saveAimlapiTopupState, settlement, or lease CAS can fail because matchingStateOrNull still expects the legacy identity.

A live-owner guard must preserve migration for abandoned or recoverable receipts while preventing migration when the resume token belongs to an active checkout.
