Core concept

SoundStream is a unique collaborative music player that takes playlist curation out of the hands of a single party host and puts it into the hands of party guests. SoundStream uses Bluetooth to establish connections between phones and doesn't rely on external infrastructure including the Internet.

At a party, roadtrip, or some other event, one user designates himself as the "host". Other participants are "guests". The host connections his phone to a speaker or some audio source and can enjoy the party without any further input. Guests can curate a shared playlist by playing songs from a shared library of all of the phones connected to the host.

How to play

Host

When SoundStream opens, press the Create button, connect your phone to a speaker or other audio source, and enjoy!

If you want to add new members to your network, you can do so in the Network page, which is accessed through the sliding drawer coming from the left side of the screen. Press the Add Members to Network button and SoundStream will locate devices in your area that are Bluetooth-discoverable. A dialog will pop up after a few seconds, and you can check the devices you'd like to add to your SoundStream network.

Guest

To join a host's network as a guest, press the Join as button. You'll be prompted to make your device Bluetooth-discoverable for 30 seconds. During this time, the host can add guests to the network.

Once you're connected to a network, you can view the playlist that your friends have built and add songs from the shared library of songs from everyone's devices in the network.

What devices do you support?

SoundStream supports Android 2.2 through 4.3, meaning we support around 90% of all Android devices.

At this point, support for other mobile platforms is not in our short-term plans.
