Enzyme 0.13.189 fails reverse-mode tests with LLVM canonicalization error #73

Closed

Description

@ChrisRackauckas-Claude

On current main (24be407c85c05dcd1324184276bec72518c69888), the Enzyme reverse-mode tests fail in a fresh local resolution with Enzyme 0.13.189. This is not introduced by PR #72.

Reproduction (Julia 1.10.11):

timeout 3600 julia +1.10 --project=. -e 'using Pkg; Pkg.test(; test_args=["Enzyme"])'\n```\n\nObserved result: `65 passed, 3 errored`, each failing with `LLVM error: Canonicalization failed` in the reverse-mode Enzyme tests. The relevant resolved versions are Enzyme `0.13.189`, EnzymeCore `0.8.21`, Enzyme_jll `0.0.285+0`, GPUCompiler `1.23.0`, and LLVM `9.10.1`.\n\nA control run with the otherwise comparable environment and Enzyme pinned to `0.13.188` passes the entire `test/Enzyme/enzyme_tests.jl` file. The same tests were already present in FWW commit `1a1730e`, so this is dependency-resolution drift rather than an FWW source regression.\n\nThe CI jobs for PR #72 are green; this report records the local reproducible failure for follow-up without expanding that documentation PR.

    Update: a fresh resolution now selects Enzyme 0.13.190 with Enzyme_jll 0.0.288+0, and the full direct Enzyme suite passes. The failure was specific to the earlier 0.13.189 resolution, so this is resolved externally.
