npm install
npm run build:portable # Ruxi-Portable.exe (o build-portable.bat)
rufus-engine.exe --headless --iso "C:\ruta\windows.iso" --device "E:" --username "TuNombre" [--logfile "C:\ruta\log.txt"]
| Flag | Descripción |
|---|---|
--headless |

Ruxi prepares the USB for you and holds your hand, step by step, until Windows is up and running. Free, no jargon and no paying anyone.
Ruxi is a Windows app that creates the Windows 10/11 install USB and guides you to the end: booting, installing, drivers and basic programs. Under the hood it uses the Rufus engine, and on top it's a wizard built so anyone can use it. It sets up the technical stuff (GPT, UEFI, NTFS, TPM...) by itself.

🆚 How is it different from Rufus?
Ruxi uses the Rufus engine under the hood (hence its reliability), but the experience is a different thing.

- Download Windows from the app or pick an ISO you already have.
- Plug in a USB drive of at least 8 GB.
- Hit Start: Ruxi formats and writes everything by itself (5 to 20 minutes depending on your USB and PC).
- Follow the guide: it explains how to boot from the USB and install step by step.

Yes, and you don't have to take my word for it. Ruxi formats disks, so it's fair to ask:
- 📖 Open source: all the code is here on GitHub (GPL-3.0). Anyone can review what it does.
- 🛡️ Verified on VirusTotal: every version is scanned with 60+ antivirus engines. Scans for v1.4.3: ✓ portable · ✓ installer.
- 🔧 Built on Rufus: it uses the Rufus engine, one of the most used and trusted USB tools in the world.
- 🛠️ Build it yourself: if you don't trust the
.exe, you can compile Ruxi from source.
ℹ️ If your antivirus flags the portable version, it's a known false positive of unsigned self-extracting executables. The installer doesn't get it.
- The USB gets fully erased. Ruxi shows you what's on it first, but back up anything you want to keep.
- It asks for administrator rights on launch. That's normal and required to write the USB.
- Auto-update is only for the installer version. The portable one tells you about the new version.
You need Node.js and, for the engine, Visual Studio 2022.
npm install
npm run build:portable # Ruxi-Portable.exe (or build-portable.bat)
npm run build:installer # installer (requires excluding app-builder.exe from Windows Defender)
npm run sync:i18n # syncs the languages to the phone guide (docs/guia/)The frontend calls rufus-engine.exe, a modified Rufus with a headless mode. If you change the engine's C code,
open rufus.sln in VS2022 (Release x64), build it and copy x64\Release\rufus.exe to build\rufus-engine.exe
before the app build. npm start doesn't work in development because of an electron module conflict; the app works fine when built with electron-builder.
Engine technical details
rufus-engine.exe --headless --iso "C:\path\windows.iso" --device "E:" --username "YourName" [--logfile "C:\path\log.txt"]
| Flag | Description |
|---|---|
--headless |
Runs with no UI, auto-configured, emitting JSON to stdout |
--iso PATH |
Path to the Windows ISO image |
--device "E:" |
Drive letter of the target USB |
--username NAME |
Name of the local Windows account |
--logfile PATH |
(Optional) Dumps the full Rufus log to a file |
Stdout output: {"status":"progress","percent":35}, {"status":"done"} or {"status":"error","message":"..."}.
Changes to the Rufus C code are marked with // Ruxi in rufus.c, ui.c, stdio.c, rufus.h and wue.h.
