CAT/ITEM resource compatibility matrix — which container or external texture to edit, tested behavior and current tool limits.
An experimental Windows x64 tool by PmNz8 for building
model/texture modifications and fixed-profile narrative bundles in DKS_Patch.dv2 archives.
Current 0.2.8 supports recognized static ITEM topology/material edits and prepared physics through ordinary Import Model. Same-path original variants warn; identity and transactional write guards remain enforced. There is no separate Physics Experiment mode in this version. Use the separate cooker for changed collision. No automatic map placement or static-map geometry rebuild is included. Shared textures can affect unrelated objects; native dark/parallax effects can differ from a Blender preview. Use Model Viewer 0.1.9 and Blender addon 0.1.11.
Physics is imported as opaque bytes. Builder checks package integrity and target paths, not the contents or correctness of the physics file. Prepare changed physics with the separate cooker first. Invalid supplied physics can cause incorrect collisions or game crashes even when the package passes integrity checks.
Earlier version 0.2.3 added whole-owner CAT/ITEM packages, including supported combined embedded geometry/animation edits. Diagnostics identify the complete container as the target; external mesh labels are not rewritten. Ordinary player CAT can retain unsupported native clips with a static preview; DIV2 write guards remain. Those older package versions remain subject to their own supported scope.
Version 0.2.2 accepts prepared v4 collision carriers through ordinary Import Model.
Unchanged v3 physics also needs no special mode; changed uncooked v3 is blocked.
Version 0.2.1 added opt-in Physics Experiment import of v3 collision carriers,
patching only recognized convex vertex coordinates without recooking. Runtime
behavior is untested and may include crashes or incorrect collision.
Version 0.2.0 added source-preserving .d2model imports from Model Viewer/Blender.
Version 0.1.1 added Quest Author's new-FoV Beata/Hansel package type.
The earlier 0.1.0 release supports textures only.
Built around the game's patch-archive loading mechanism, DKS Patch Builder
keeps supported texture replacements in a dedicated DKS_Patch.dv2 — so you
can change the game's look without repacking its original asset archives.
Developed and tested exclusively with the GOG edition of Divinity II: Developer's Cut. Compatibility with other editions or storefront versions has not been verified.
-
Imports verified
.d2modelv1/v2 packages as atomic pending groups. Only changed native resources are included; unchanged sources remain out of the patch. -
Rechecks exact model-source archive/payload identities and warns about different same-path variants. Model outputs must stay outside every
Packeddirectory. -
Imports Builder Packages exported by Texture Viewer.
-
Compiles edited BC1/BC3 textures; unchanged BC2 packages are also supported.
-
Imports batches of texture packages and regenerates existing lower mips from explicit MIP0 packages.
-
Creates or opens a DKS archive, queues changes and shows their targets/warnings.
-
Saves to a new archive or updates the selected DKS with one previous-file backup.
-
Imports
narrative.fov_debt.v1packages from Quest Author as one five-resource group. -
Validates the recognized pristine source corpus, complete narrative groups and supported source versions.
The initial narrative import requires a new empty DKS outside Packed and an empty queue. Save that group first; texture packages can then be added to the saved DKS. The maintainer reports successful game-runtime use of a DKS containing textures and the fixed quest payload. This is a tested combination, not universal mod compatibility. Merging several narrative packages or upgrading an existing quest is unsupported. The tool does not install mods, resize textures or create game references for newly named textures. Model-package assembly/preview choices do not rewrite game references. The model integration has offline tests; importing successfully is not game-runtime certification.
There is no comprehensive protection against conflicts between packages and no automatic conflict resolution. Basic queue/path and source-integrity checks do not establish that mods are compatible. A later import can replace an existing resource at the same logical path; the Builder does not merge quest logic, shared registries or other resource contents. Review targets and warnings, keep backups, and choose compatible packages yourself.
Extract the entire Windows ZIP and run DKSPatchBuilder.exe. No separate Python, .NET or WebView2 installation is required. The executable is unsigned.
See USAGE.md for the complete workflow, safety rules and limits, or BUILD.md to build the matching source package.
