Some CJK glyphs render as white boxes in the VSH Menu #4

Some CJK characters in the VSH Menu render as white square boxes instead of the expected glyphs.

What I saw

When using a CJK language, most text renders, but some characters show up as white boxes.

Expected

All translated CJK characters should render with the matching glyphs from the bundled font resources.

FYI

This may be related to the generated .pf font files or the language resources packed into LANG.ARK.

The VSH Menu uses CJK-specific fonts such as:

• CHS.pf
• CHT.pf
• JP.pf
• KR.pf

The related source/resources seem to be around:

I'm not sure yet whether the missing glyphs are absent from the source font, lost during .pf generation, or mapped incorrectly when LANG.ARK is packed.

Workaround

For the affected strings, the simplest workaround is to avoid the missing CJK glyphs and use English text instead.

For example, in Simplified Chinese:

白 -> White

This keeps the menu readable while the font or resource issue is being checked.
