Important

How to Fish is 1–4 player co-op, PvE only. Options marked crew change the shared island for everyone — creature AI, boss health, weather, physics.

Host-only mode ships enabled and blocks them while you are a guest. The game is at its best when four idiots are failing together, so run this with people who know.

What it does

You crashed a boat into an island because you were drunk. Now you fish your way home — starting with clams and a borrowed rod, ending with a shotgun, a boss the size of the island, and a gambling problem.

Most of this menu targets the early hours, which are deliberately punishing: no gear, no money, a bird that takes your third crab in a row. Birds never steal your catch is not a joke option, it is the single most requested thing in the reviews. Never lose a fish removes the red-bar failure state without removing the reel-in fight itself.

The fishing minigame is the game, so the option that skips it is tagged bypass and ships off.

Tip

The setup that keeps the game funny: birds never steal your catch, never lose a fish, barrier break speed at 5x, sell price multiplier at 3x. Nothing tagged crew, nothing tagged bypass. You still fight every fish and shoot every boss — you just stop losing your third crab in a row and stop mashing M1 until your finger hurts.

Physics throw force at 20x is the one to show your friends. It affects nothing important and it is extremely stupid.

Warning

Rig the fish casino touches in-game currency in a joke casino — there is no real money anywhere in this game. It is here for completeness, and it removes a gag rather than a challenge.

Options tagged save write persistent progression. Weapons, islands and quest state all live in the save, so let the rolling backup run before you touch them.

FAQ

Will I get banned? No. How to Fish is PvE co-op with no PvP, no leaderboards and no anti-cheat. The only risk is being the person who trivialised the boss fight your friends were enjoying.
Can I stop the birds stealing my fish? Yes, and it is bound to F5 because it is the first thing everybody asks for. Client-side, so it changes nothing for anyone else.
Does it skip the fishing minigame? Only if you enable instant catch or auto-perfect reel, both tagged bypass and both off by default. Barrier break speed is the middle ground — you still play the minigame, there is just less mashing.
Does it work solo? Yes. The game supports single-player, and with nobody else in the session every option is effectively client-side.
Will it ruin the run for my friends? It can, if you host with frozen creature AI or boss health at 5%. Host-only mode blocks all of that while you are a guest, and it is on by default.
Options stopped working after an update. The game launched this week and is patching quickly. Patches move memory offsets — check the Releases page for a build matching your game version, and use read-only mode to see what still reads correctly.
