What

New page Alerts → Callbacks (docs/alerts/callbacks.md, added to the sidebar after Actions) for the alert callbacks feature shipped in OpsiMate/OpsiMate#1209 (server) and OpsiMate/OpsiMate#1210 (Settings tab).

It covers:

  • how a callback fires: after the change is committed, off the request path, 5 s timeout, retries at 1 s / 5 s / 30 s, last-delivery status, the 500-deliveries backlog cap;
  • the nine events and what details carries for each, and which user actions produce more than one entry;
  • bulk actions as one request per event with every alert;
  • the request headers and the JSON payload with an example;
  • signature verification (sha256=HMAC-SHA256(secret, "<timestamp>.<body>")) with a Node.js example including the replay window;
  • body templates and their extra variables;
  • managing callbacks in Settings (off by default, Send test, audit log);
  • the admin API and the Prometheus metric.

Verification

docusaurus build on this branch: success, the page renders at /docs/alerts/callbacks and the Actions page links to it as next. Internal links (./actions.md, ../user-management/audit-logs.md) resolve.

The verification example can throw on a malformed signature instead of rejecting it. Add a byte-length check; the issue is limited to users who copy the sample, so the PR is otherwise close to merge-ready.

### Verifying the signature

Every callback with a secret is signed. The signed string is the `X-OpsiMate-Timestamp` value, a dot, and the raw request body:

```
signature = "sha256=" + hex(HMAC-SHA256(secret, timestamp + "." + body))
```

Compare it in constant time with the `X-OpsiMate-Signature` header, and reject requests whose timestamp is older than a few minutes to stop replays. Node.js example:

```js
import { createHmac, timingSafeEqual } from 'node:crypto';
export const isFromOpsiMate = (secret, headers, rawBody) => {
const timestamp = headers['x-opsimate-timestamp'];
const expected = 'sha256=' + createHmac('sha256', secret).update(`${timestamp}.${rawBody}`).digest('hex');
const given = headers['x-opsimate-signature'] ?? '';
const fresh = Math.abs(Date.now() / 1000 - Number(timestamp)) < 300;
return fresh && given.length === expected.length && timingSafeEqual(Buffer.from(given), Buffer.from(expected));
};
```

The secret is generated when the callback is created. It is shown in the edit dialog (Copy) and can be rotated there; you may also type your own (at least 8 characters).

Check signature byte length before timingSafeEqual.

given.length === expected.length checks JavaScript string length, not encoded byte length. A fresh request with a same-length non-ASCII signature can pass that check, while Buffer.from(given) is longer than Buffer.from(expected). Node.js then throws instead of returning false, so a copied handler can fail on a malformed signature request.

Suggested fix
   const given = headers['x-opsimate-signature'] ?? '';
   const fresh = Math.abs(Date.now() / 1000 - Number(timestamp)) < 300;
-  return fresh && given.length === expected.length && timingSafeEqual(Buffer.from(given), Buffer.from(expected));
+  const givenBytes = Buffer.from(given);
+  const expectedBytes = Buffer.from(expected);
+  return fresh && givenBytes.length === expectedBytes.length && timingSafeEqual(givenBytes, expectedBytes);
 };
