Summary

Adds support for the Lamzu Paro Aurora when connected through either the shared Aurora 8K receiver (0x37b0:0x0001) or the shared Aurora 1K Nano receiver (0x37b0:0x0003).

Details

  • Shared Receivers Added: Added 0x0001 (8K receiver, RATES_8K) and 0x0003 (1K receiver, RATES_1K) to LAMZU_INCA_PRODUCTS.
  • Dynamic Mouse Identification: Implemented pairing status query on shared receivers via CompX feature report command (target: 0x01, page: 0x00, command: 0x8b, arg: [0x02]). When the receiver reports 0x37b0:0x0007, the client profile dynamically resolves to Lamzu Paro Aurora while retaining the receiver's wireless transport and polling rate capabilities (up to 1000 Hz for Nano, up to 8000 Hz for 8K).
  • Deadlock Prevention: Guarded readPairedProduct() so it is only queried on shared receivers during status reads, and never inside open(), preventing queue deadlocks with exchange().
  • Unit Tests: Added unit tests in src/drivers/lamzu/hid.test.ts for shared 8K, shared 1K, and dedicated dongles (0x000d / 0x000e).

Verification

  • Tested and verified on real hardware with both the Nano 1K receiver and 8K receiver paired to a Lamzu Paro Aurora.
  • All 2,642 tests in mouse-protocol passing (npm run check).

📝 Walkthrough

The Lamzu HID client now identifies paired mice through shared Aurora receivers and uses their profiles with receiver-specific connection properties. Three SteelSeries HID clients now accept numeric DPI values as well as preset objects.

Changes: Lamzu Shared Receiver Support

Layer / File(s) Summary
Aurora receiver catalog
src/lamzu/index.ts, src/drivers/lamzu/hid.test.ts
The catalog adds Aurora 8K and 1K receiver entries with their polling rates. Tests check the receiver models and rate lists.
Paired mouse discovery and profile
src/drivers/lamzu/hid.ts, src/drivers/lamzu/hid.test.ts
The HID client reads paired product IDs for shared receivers and applies a recognized paired-mouse profile while retaining receiver connection properties. Tests cover paired mice on shared receivers and mice on dedicated receivers.

SteelSeries Numeric DPI Input

Layer / File(s) Summary
Numeric DPI stage values
src/drivers/steelseries/aerox-3-wireless-gen2-hid.ts, src/drivers/steelseries/rival-3-v2-hid.ts, src/drivers/steelseries/rival-3-wireless-v2-hid.ts
The three clients accept numeric DPI values or preset objects. Numeric values become equal X and Y values. The Aerox client preserves the stage lift-off distance or uses its default.

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 36076

A pairing change may not update the displayed mouse profile until the receiver is reopened. This is a bounded issue, but pairing refresh and the required decoder placement should be addressed before merge.

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 36076

The inspected changes remain within mouse configuration on the selected HID device. No new privilege escalation or cross-device access path was established. Remaining uncertainty concerns pairing-cache recovery, interrupted operations, and application behavior outside this repository.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The traced influence of receiver-reported identity is bounded to catalog-based behavior and configuration reports on the owning client's HID handle. The new identity lookup does not select another driver or obtain another device handle. This does not establish how external applications consume the resulting status.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Device admission remains based on the actual HID device vendor, catalog product and expected feature report. Peripheral-supplied pairing bytes undergo a separate vendor-scoped catalog lookup before changing the profile. That lookup constrains selection to known profiles but is not authentication of the reported mouse identity.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — An awaited pairing response could assign identity after close() has cleared it because assignment has no session-generation check. This is a conditional stale-state risk, not an established security bypass: reply timing during close and reuse of the client by external callers were not demonstrated.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The Lamzu changes and their tests support the stated Paro Aurora objective. The changes in src/drivers/steelseries/aerox-3-wireless-gen2-hid.ts, src/drivers/steelseries/rival-3-v2-hid.ts, and src/drivers/steelseries/rival-3-wireless-v2-hid.ts change DPI API types and behavior for unrelated SteelSeries devices. The linked issue concerns Lamzu Paro Aurora support and does not establish scope for these changes.

Resolution

Remove the unrelated SteelSeries DPI changes from this pull request, or move them to a separate pull request with an applicable linked issue.

Move paired-product response decoding into the Lamzu API.

readPairedProduct() currently decodes the transport-independent vendor and product IDs. Keep the HID request, catalog lookup, and client state in the driver, but expose the response decoder from src/lamzu/index.ts.
