Description

Backport of #767 from main onto release/agent/v7.0.x, cherry-picked with -x. This is the changelog cut for agent/v7.0.0, and the one bookkeeping commit between agent/v7.0.0-rc.2 and the final tag, per Agent Releases step 4.

  • agent/RELEASE_NOTES.md gets the ## agent/v7.0.0 - 2026-10-05 heading, which release.yml extracts at the tagged commit and prepends to the release body. It has to be on this branch before the final is tagged.
  • agent/CHANGELOG.md gains the v7.0.0 section.

Nothing touches the agent binary or image, so rc.2 remains the validated build and this does not call for another release candidate. After merge, agent/v7.0.0 gets tagged on this branch's head.

How this was verified

The cherry-pick applied cleanly. Both files are byte-identical to main afterwards. Generated changelog and release notes only; no code changed.

AI assistance: produced with Claude Code.

Checklist

  • I am familiar with the Contributing Guidelines.
  • My commits are signed off per the DCO and cryptographically signed: git commit -s -S.
  • If this changes code, I ran the relevant suite locally and recorded the result above.
  • New or existing tests cover these changes.
  • The documentation is up to date with these changes.
  • If an AI tool wrote a meaningful part of this change, I have said so above, and I can explain and defend every line of it.

Run scripts/gen-changelog.sh agent v7.0.0: render the v7.0.0 section of
agent/CHANGELOG.md and promote agent/RELEASE_NOTES.md to the
'## agent/v7.0.0' heading release.yml prepends to the release body.

Lands on main first and is cherry-picked to release/agent/v7.0.x as the one
bookkeeping commit between rc.2 and the final tag.
