BYU-I ITM 101 Project
Our web app plan is to create a consolidated area for small business to plan, share files, collaborate, and stay on the same page with specific pipelines and progressions. Often small businesses struggle because they don't have a centralized location for keeping track of plans and tasks. This app will help address that issue. The main page has a dashboard and whiteboard area where an overview can be shown as well as a location for miscellaneous thoughts and ideas. The business using it will be able to customize a specific progression pipeline for their needs. Some features include:
~ A shared calendar for employees and employers to use to organize specific events/tasks throughout the day and week.
~ A pipeline map with a progression bar. For greater tasks or projects, this can be used for the different members of the business to keep track of what has been done and what has not. This is especially helpful for businesses that need things do be done in a specific order, and where communication might be lacking. Having this centralized progression map will help people stay on the same page.
~ A drop box for different people to share files quickly.
~ Multi-user collaboration. Due to the cloud capabilities, different people will be able to get on and edit/move things around to allow for effective communication and collaboration.
~ A space for specific tasks. These tasks can have deadlines, be assigned to specific people, and be marked as TODO, in-progress, or complete.
~ An overall dashboard with whiteboard. This will have a progress bar for the current pipeline, a small overview of the calendar, A button for accessing the dropbox area, and some top tasks that can be filtered. To the side is a place for a whiteboard, which is basically a free space for people to brainstorm and come up with ideas.
Install dependencies with npm install, then start the app with npm start. Open http://localhost:8080 for the dashboard. Tasks, calendar, pipeline, file drop, and whiteboard are linked from the left navigation. Run npm test for the whiteboard service checks.
Planner tasks, events, stages, and file metadata are stored in this browser. Files are not uploaded. Whiteboard content is shared by the local Socket.IO server and saved in .data/whiteboard.json. This demo has no authentication and is intended for local use.
