[Bug][macOS] Local projects sidebar stays empty with a large history #483

Open

Description

@Apfelkringel

Version

MiniMax Code Desktop 3.1.1.178

Platform

macOS 27.0.1 (Apple Silicon)

Issue area

Desktop UI / local conversations

What happened

The Local sidebar remains empty even though the local runtime database contains many visible projects and conversations. The database passes SQLite quick_check.

In this installation, there are 1,984 visible, unpinned projects and 6,928 active root sessions. The app's bundled sidebar loader requests project pages with a limit of 20, follows every cursor, and only publishes the loaded groups after the pagination loop finishes. A refresh is scheduled every 60 seconds. Runtime logs show roughly 100 successful /minimax-desktop/api/v1/project/sidebar/query requests per minute, typically around 0.5 seconds each. The load appears to be restarted before the full project list can be published, leaving the sidebar blank.

No chat content, credentials, or logs are attached.

Expected

The Local sidebar should show available projects/conversations as they load, and a periodic refresh should not cancel an in-progress initial load.

Reproduction

  1. Open MiniMax Code Desktop on macOS with a large local project/conversation history.
  2. Select Local.
  3. Observe the sidebar remains empty while the runtime repeatedly queries project pages.

Diagnostic details

The issue persisted after restarting the app. The signed app build is 3.1.1.178.

Thanks for the report — a local database that passes quick_check while the sidebar stays empty points at a query or mapping problem rather than data corruption, and the details you provided are exactly what is needed to look at it.

Triage action: labelled bug + desktop. Removed from needs-triage.

What we need to take it further (please reply with these):

    1. The active data directory path in this installation (the one holding the local runtime database), and whether it is a non-default profile directory.
    2. The row counts of the projects and conversations tables, if you can query them locally with the sqlite3 CLI.
    3. Whether the sidebar is empty on every launch, or only after a specific action (for example switching profiles or restarting the app).

A desktop log upload ID from Settings → General → Upload logs would also help correlate this with the client-side query. We will reply within 48 hours. If you want to investigate and fix it yourself, a fork PR does not require collaborator access — please open an issue describing the scope first.
