Gate F3 — Developer adoption, API contracts and source-package verification

  • Correct stale crate-level rustdoc: v1 now generates immutable advisory plans and supports an atomic analysis facade. No independent cryptographic proofs or policy approval are claimed.
  • Extend migration_plan.rs into a public end-to-end example which requires the manually composed and atomic advisory plan digests to agree, and rejects forged graph pins without returning a partial artifact.
  • Add a clean-room verifier: build cargo package --offline --locked with publish = false, check bounded archive members and metadata, unpack into a temporary directory, compile the real source-package crate from an external Cargo project with no workspace path fallback, run the example twice under --frozen, and compare fixed safe output lines.
  • Add adversarial Python tests for tar path traversal and symlink rejection; run the packaged consumer under stable and Rust 1.85 in independent Linux CI jobs.
  • Add public API, MSRV and known limitation guide in docs/GETTING_STARTED.md; align docs/CI_VERIFICATION with all five checks. Keep neutral upstream interface and all authorization claims conservative.

Limits: No crates.io registry publication, no migration execution or authority, and no network access from the downstream consumer. FOSS-509 required-check administration remains outstanding.

Qualification: Draft pending exact-head CI, independent review and package validation. All release controls and publish = false stay active.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Added an end-to-end example demonstrating deterministic, atomic migration analysis and plan validation.
    • Added offline packaged-consumer verification, including reproducibility, archive safety, metadata, and Rust 1.85 compatibility checks.
  • Documentation

    • Added Getting Started and developer adoption guidance covering offline analysis, API usage, verification, package checks, and release limitations.
    • Clarified that plans are advisory and do not authorize migration, execution, or approval.
    • Expanded documentation of evidence validation, cryptographic risk analysis, and post-quantum capability states.
  • CI & Tests

    • Added stable and Rust 1.85 packaged-crate acceptance checks, including Windows and MSRV qualification.

📝 Walkthrough

The change adds atomic analysis checks to the migration-plan example and an offline verifier for the unpublished crate and a detached Cargo consumer. CI runs package acceptance checks at stable and Rust 1.85. Documentation describes the API, verification process, and release limits.

Changes: Analysis and package acceptance

Layer / File(s) Summary
Atomic analysis behavior
crates/cryptoshift/examples/migration_plan.rs, crates/cryptoshift/src/lib.rs, crates/cryptoshift/README.md, docs/GETTING_STARTED.md
The example checks that valid inputs produce a partial analysis with a matching plan digest and metrics. It also checks that a forged graph fingerprint produces no plan or metrics. Crate documentation describes analysis outcomes and API boundaries.
Packaged-crate consumer verification
crates/cryptoshift/Cargo.toml, scripts/package_consumer_check.py, scripts/test_package_consumer_check.py, tests/acceptance/packaged-consumer.golden
The verifier validates the offline crate archive and its metadata, builds a detached consumer, and checks repeated output against a golden. Unit tests cover archive paths and output projection.
CI and adoption checks
.github/workflows/ci.yml, docs/CI_VERIFICATION.md, README.md, docs/GETTING_STARTED.md
CI runs package acceptance checks at stable and Rust 1.85. Documentation describes qualification checks, package adoption, supported environments, and publication limits.

Fix the package archive lookup and align the branch-protection instructions with all five required checks before merging; otherwise package qualification can be unreliable or incomplete.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

List all five required statuses in the administration instructions.

Line 3 requires five protected-main checks, but Line 46 instructs operators to require only Rust checks and Supply chain and SemVer. An operator who follows Line 46 can leave both Windows checks and the Rust 1.85 check optional. Update this instruction and the “two CI jobs succeed” statement at Line 38 to match the five-check requirement.
