What

Two things:

1. Feature — "Transcribe from a URL…"

A secondary entry point under the drop zone: paste a YouTube (or other video) link → the audio is downloaded and transcribed on-device with timestamps ([m:ss] …).

The yt-dlp / deno / ffmpeg helpers are downloaded on demand the first time the feature is used (into ~/Library/Application Support/Transcribe/tools/, ~110 MB one-time) — not bundled. The app itself stays ~5 MB, and anyone who never uses the feature pays nothing.

2. Shipping — push to main ships

  • ci.yml — build check on PRs / non-main branches (this PR runs it).
  • release.yml — on push to main: auto version 1.0.<run#> → build → DMG → GitHub Release, including a stable-named Transcribe.dmg.
  • install.sh — curl … | bash installer → latest release.
  • docs/ — GitHub Pages landing page → latest DMG.
  • Signs + notarizes automatically when Developer ID secrets are present; ad-hoc otherwise.

Notes

  • Verified locally: builds clean (~4.7 MB), full download→transcribe pipeline works, version stamping + DMG naming correct, all scripts lint clean.
  • No Developer ID secrets yet → first release DMG is ad-hoc (website download shows a Gatekeeper prompt; install.sh strips quarantine so that path is smooth).
  • After merge: enable GitHub Pages (Settings ▸ Pages ▸ main / docs) for the website to go live.

Feature: "Transcribe from a URL…" — paste a YouTube/video link and get a
timestamped transcript. The yt-dlp/deno/ffmpeg helpers are downloaded on demand
into Application Support the first time the feature is used (not bundled), so the
app stays ~5 MB and people who never use it pay nothing.

Shipping: push-to-main release pipeline.
- ci.yml: build check on PRs / non-main branches.
- release.yml: push to main -> auto version (1.0.<run>) -> build -> DMG ->
GitHub Release, incl. a stable-named Transcribe.dmg. Signs + notarizes when
Developer ID secrets are present, else ad-hoc.
- install.sh: curl | bash installer pointing at releases/latest.
- docs/: GitHub Pages landing page linking to the latest DMG.
- make-dmg.sh / bump-version.sh helpers.
