Rolls back the pre-Approve step of #842 after measuring it in production (3 Oct 2026, UTC):

Hour Sign-ups Approved Claude
06-12 (before #842) 94 77 (82%)
14 (after) 19 8 (42%)
15 (after) 10 4 (40%)

Of the 8 sign-ups after the deploy who opened Stripe Checkout, 1 started a paid trial (Team) and 5 neither paid nor returned to approve. The connection is the activation step, so the offer cost more than it earned.

  • Sign-ups from Claude go straight back to Approve again (as before Card trial for sign-ups from Claude, with a guaranteed way back to approve #842).
  • Kept: the way-back helpers on /start-trial and /settings/license/activate (inert without the offer) and the plan-limit answer of the MCP setup tools.
  • Removed the e2e spec for the pre-Approve offer; the existing "goes straight back" test covers the flow.

Frontend e2e: 100 passed.

Next idea (not in this PR): offer the card trial where it does not compete with the connection, e.g. a secondary link on the "Claude is connected" page (new tab) or in the dashboard after the first successful tool call.

Put between sign-up and Approve (#842), the offer halved the share of
sign-ups from Claude that approved the connection: about 80% an hour
before it, 40-42% in the two hours after. Of eight who opened the
checkout from it, one paid and five neither paid nor came back to
approve. Sign-ups from Claude go straight back to approve again.

The way-back helpers on /start-trial and the licence activation page stay
(inert without the offer), as does the plan-limit answer in the MCP setup
tools.
