The current
sizeof(...) > 1checks reject missing or empty definitions, but any other non-empty quoted strings also pass. Compare the compiled values with the Arduino-Pico Pico definitions.Suggested fix

RP2350 configurations so aliases fill `USBD_VID` and `USBD_PID` only when the
board has not defined them. Preserve board-supplied values through
`BoardConfig::get_defines` and the later
`defines.extend(mcu_config.defines_map())` merge.

The real default
board = picobuild reproduced #1670 exactly: boot2 assembly rejected a bare-Dwith "macro names must be identifiers". The bundled board metadata uses valid GCC syntax-D ARDUINO_RASPBERRY_PI_PICO; the parser treated the standalone option as an empty macro name.Fixes #1670. Part of #1689.
Validation:
The original source head
f7683f49passed the complete Windows run 39724676493. Its board-validation gate then caught the Mbed/Arduino-Pico variant mismatch. Follow-up764b9482restores the published board variant and resolves the framework variant at build time. RED: restoring the manifest reproduced missing pins_arduino.h. GREEN: the real Pico build, override-preservation test, workspace tests, Clippy, formatting and USB guard pass. Pico build/upload fields match official PlatformIO raspberrypi v1.19.0 using the validator’s extract functions; no validation exception was added. A fresh Windows replay 39729775915 is active for this follow-up. The required source-bound local CI proof remains pending because Bosn creates a temporary Git copy and the active task prohibits additional copies; no required gate was bypassed.Summary by CodeRabbit
=and flags written in either supported form.Review follow-up
9ff15da6addresses the USB alias precedence finding: RP MCU defines are defaults, while explicit board/project flags win. The regression first failed with TEST_VENDOR replaced by USB_VID, then passed for RP2040 and RP2350; defaults remain registry-backed symbolic aliases. A second regression reproduced stale firmware reuse under the previous precedence; the define-policy fingerprint was advanced and the cache test now passes. The real Pico firmware test passed with the supported FBUILD_ZCCACHE_ROOT override after a shared-cache writer conflict; the isolated temporary cache was removed with safe-rm. RP tests, full workspace tests, workspace Clippy, formatting, USB guard and platform inventory pass. Fresh latest-head Windows replay 39731484814 is active.Windows evidence: the complete 39729775915 replay passed for variant-resolution head
764b9482. The subsequent USB precedence/cache-policy correction is covered by local regressions and the active latest-head replay linked above.Final review follow-up
a4601b39strengthens the real firmware test to compare USB_MANUFACTURER and USB_PRODUCT with the actual Arduino-Pico Pico strings (Raspberry Pi / Pico), rather than accepting any nonempty value. The real Linux build passes; its isolated test cache was removed. Production source is unchanged from9ff15da6, whose complete Windows job 39731484814 passed. A fresh Windows replay 39733455134 checks the stronger test on this latest head. The original CodeRabbit review state still requests changes on the olderf7683f49review; both its actionable finding and its test nitpick are addressed.Formatting follow-up
cdadd05e: CI caught rustfmt wrapping around the fixture writer after the exact-string assertion was added. Applied rustfmt and verified cargo fmt --check plus git diff --check. The generated C++ fixture is byte-for-byte identical toa4601b39, so its active Windows replay exercises the same test payload; no production code changed.
