Rebased onto main (ae0cf3a) to take in #1473, which fixes #1407, #1409 and #1410. The --no-project check-ubuntu commit was dropped because main already contains the same change from #1473. The version bump and the soldr 0.9.23 lock are unchanged. Merging and dispatching release-auto.yml for 2.5.28 once CI is green.
