IT221 – LAN Network Project
Overview:
This project was completed as part of the IT221 course. The objective was to build a small local area network (LAN) using a router and multiple laptops, following a Star Topology where each device connects to a central router, and to test device communication and basic security measures in a controlled environment without internet access. This repository contains the complete project documentation, including implementation steps, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and screenshots.
Project Components:
• Network Connection (static IP configuration, Ethernet setup, ping testing) • Firewall Application Blocking (BeeBEEP) • Chatting Program (LAN Messenger) • Calling Program (LAN Messenger) • Remote Device Control (TeamViewer) • MAC Address Filtering (blacklist/whitelist via router settings)
My Contributions:
- Participated in the LAN setup by connecting devices to the router and configuring static IP addresses.
- Investigated and troubleshot network connectivity issues, including resolving a "Destination Unreachable" error by checking network configuration, replacing Ethernet cables, and identifying a faulty router.
- Verified network communication using the ping command.
- Prepared the project documentation, organized the report structure, and captured the implementation screenshots.
Technologies Used:
