πŸ“ Notes & Organization

BigNoteBox lets you create and manage unlimited notes directly inside World of Warcraft. Everything is stored account-wide, with optional per-character scope when needed.

🧾 Core Concept

Each note consists of:

  • A title
  • Freeform body text
  • Optional tags
  • Optional scope (global or character-specific)

Notes are designed to be fast, searchable, and always accessible in-game.

πŸ—‚οΈ Creating Notes

There are three types of notes in BNB.

  1. [Regular note](Regular Note): When clicking New Note, or using the keybind if one is set, will open a new note dialogue window where you select a title, icon, font type and size. You can also check "Rich Note" box which will turn the regular note into a rich note (see below)
  2. [Quick note](Quick Note): A quick note lets you instantly start typing a note quickly. These notes can also be configured just like a regular note later. Quick notes skips the new note dialogue box and creates a note called "Quick Note.."
  3. [Rich Note](Rich Note): Lets you create fully rendered notes that can show colors, have headers, be aligned left/right/center, have icons and even images.

Notes are stored immediately and do not require external syncing. You don't need to click the "Save" button, as closing the window, or clicking another note will automatically save the note for you. Notes will also periodically create history points which can be accessed in the [Note History](Note History) window, the "View Note History" button in the WYSIWYG toolbar or through the [right click menu](Right Click Menu) in the [note list](Note List).

πŸ“Š Organization Features

Ordering

  • Drag and drop notes to reorder them manually (only in custom sort)
  • Sort by:
    • Custom
    • Creation
    • Edited
    • A-Z
    • Location

Pinning

  • Pin important notes to the top of the list
  • Pinned notes always stay visible regardless of sorting
  • Pinned notes also show on the "Welcome page" when no note is selected

Favorites

  • Mark notes as favorites for quick identification
  • Useful for frequently used raid or crafting notes
  • Clicking the ⭐ Favorite icon above the note list will show your favorite notes only

Tag Tree View

  • Shows all the tags you have and the notes attached to them
  • (untagged) notes are shown at the bottom of the list

πŸ” Searching & Filtering

  • Live search through title, body and tags
  • Instant filtering as you type
  • Works across all notes in your library

🧷 Note Actions

Right-click any note to access:

  • Edit
  • Duplicate
  • Create alarm
  • Lock
  • Delete
  • Pin / Unpin
  • Duplicate

  • Delete permanently

πŸ”’ Locking Notes

Lock a note to prevent accidental changes:

  • Locked notes cannot be edited
  • Still fully readable and searchable
  • Can be unlocked at any time

🌍 Scope (Global vs Character)

  • All Notes: all notes you have regardless of state
  • Global notes: shared across all characters on your account
  • Character notes: only visible to the current character (or in all mode)

This allows both shared knowledge and character-specific tracking without splitting the database into one per character.

🧭 Best Practices

  • Use tags for categories (raid, PvP, crafting)
  • Pin active or important notes
  • Use character scope for class-specific setups
  • Use global scope for general reference information
