Staring at a screen all day strains your eyes. Optometrists recommend the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something about 20 feet away for 20 seconds. BlinkBreak makes that effortless — it quietly watches your active screen time and nudges you exactly when a break is due.
- Smart tracking — counts only active screen time. Step away and the timer pauses automatically; idle time never triggers pointless breaks.
- Three break styles — a full-screen dim (“the real rest”), a gentle floating countdown card, or just a notification. Your choice.
- Menu bar native — a glanceable countdown and quick actions (pause, break now, reset) one click away. No Dock clutter.
- Your rule, your rhythm — tune the reminder interval (5–60 min), break length (5–60 s), and idle timeout.
- Today at a glance — breaks taken, skipped, screen time, longest stretch, and a break timeline for the day, plus a daily streak.
- Dark & light — a warm, handcrafted interface that follows your system appearance.
- Private by design — no account, no personal data, nothing to sign up for. The only network traffic is anonymous usage analytics.
- Free — no trial, no paywall.

Full-screen break — dims everything so your eyes actually rest:
Floating card — a gentle countdown in the corner of your screen:
- Download BlinkBreak-2.0.1.dmg
- Open the DMG and drag BlinkBreak into Applications.
- Launch BlinkBreak from Applications. The app is signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens without warnings — on the very first launch macOS may simply ask you to confirm you want to open an app downloaded from the internet.
- Look for the eye in your menu bar — a short onboarding takes it from there. Enable notifications if you pick the notification break style, and optionally turn on Launch at login in Settings.
- Download BlinkBreak-Setup-1.0.0.exe
- Double-click the installer and click through the wizard — no admin needed, it installs just for you.
- BlinkBreak opens and lives in your system tray. A short onboarding takes it from there; optionally turn on Launch at login in Settings.
- The installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may show "Windows protected your PC" on first run — click More info → Run anyway.
- macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) or later — Apple Silicon or Intel (universal binary)
- Windows 10 (1809+) or Windows 11 — x64
