Problem to solve
The application shows two issues as it relates to representing the NMC (Network Management Card). This is the network card that enables SNMP communications. It is also the hardware information which should be displayed in this field. The serial number displayed in green is the UPS serial number and not the NMC serial number.
This problem exists on all NMC 1, NMC 2 (AP9630/31), NMC 3 (AP9640/41) with various NMC firmware releases.
Under the description in orange the actual information relating to the serial number has been cut off.
Going to the UPS Variables Tab -> Device Description -> Trying to add in the missing information is presented with an error that the maximum character length has been exceeded. I have captured the actual texts inside this field and this is what is present:
Text Inside Device Description Field:
APC Web/SNMP Management Card (MB:v4.2.9 PF:v2.5.5.1 PN:apc_hw21_aos_2.5.5.1.bin AF1:v2.5.5.1 AN1:apc_hw21_su_2.5.5.1.bin MN:AP9
A online tool indicates the following information:
The entire information is provided below:
Full text that should be displayed in the Device Description:
APC Web/SNMP Management Card (MB:v4.2.9 PF:v2.5.5.1 PN:apc_hw21_aos_2.5.5.1.bin AF1:v2.5.5.1 AN1:apc_hw21_su_2.5.5.1.bin MN:AP9641 HR:5 SN: 5A2042T94384 MD:10/20/2020) (Embedded PowerNet SNMP Agent SW v2.2 compatible)
Proposed behavior
Have the application support longer character length. Also poll the correct serial number from the NMC instead of the UPS serial number. In this case the correct serial number for the NMC would be 5A2042T94384, not AS18142 which is the UPS number.
Alternatives considered
Allow the end user to define the serial number in a open field. Assuming the software application can't retrieve the correct values from the MIB files.
UPS, deployment, and compatibility considerations
No response
