💡 What
python/fast_mlsirm/estimators/marginal.py 파일 내의 유클리드 거리 계산 과정에서 np.sum(diff * diff, axis=1)을 np.einsum('ij,ij->i', diff, diff)로 교체하였습니다.

🎯 Why

📊 Impact

🔬 Measurement
관련 모듈들의 테스트(pytest tests/test_diagnostics.py tests/test_estimator_marginal.py)도 모두 통과하였습니다.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The PR makes three independent maintenance changes. It refactors DIF alias docstring handling, changes a marginal-model distance calculation to np.einsum, and filters non-package modules during public API inventory.

Changes

DIF Alias Documentation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Direct alias docstring mapping
python/fast_mlsirm/dif.py
Deprecated aliases now reference renamed functions directly when appending docstrings. Temporary variables are still deleted afterward.

Marginal Distance Computation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Einsum distance calculation
python/fast_mlsirm/estimators/marginal.py
The item M-step uses np.einsum to compute per-node squared distances. The resulting distance and downstream gradient remain unchanged.

Public API Inventory Filtering

Layer / File(s) Summary
Package module filter
tools/inventory_public_api.py
The submodule walker skips names outside the fast_mlsirm. prefix before importing modules.

두 PR 모두 np.sum(diff * diff, axis=1) → np.einsum('ij,ij->i', diff, diff)라는 동일 production delta를 갖지만, #2064는 여기에 DIF alias refactor와 API-inventory suppression까지 더 섞여 있습니다.

RED/GREEN acceptance:

  • protected/current base, #1972, #2064에서 동일 right-cleared representative shapes/dtypes/strides를 실행해 output parity와 psychometric downstream objective/gradient tolerance를 비교;
  • benchmark는 warm-up/repetition/CPU affinity/runtime/NumPy version을 기록하고 allocation bytes/peak RSS, CPU, median/p95를 같은 fixture에서 base/head로 측정;
  • large matrices에서 실제 buyer-relevant improvement가 없거나 regression이면 micro-optimization을 채택하지 않음;

현재 판정은 algorithmic hypothesis PASS candidate / single-writer FAIL / verified succession FAIL / reproducible performance evidence FAIL입니다.

Noema LLM review

The changes optimize matrix operations in the marginal estimator by reducing memory allocations, improve the maintainability of DIF aliases in dif.py, and harden the API inventory tool against arbitrary module imports. All changes are correct and introduce no behavioral regressions.

Reviewed changed lines

  • python/fast_mlsirm/estimators/marginal.py:1049 (RIGHT): The replacement of np.sum(diff * diff, axis=1) with np.einsum('ij,ij->i', diff, diff) is mathematically identical for 2D arrays, computing the row-wise sum of squares. This optimizes memory by eliminating the intermediate array created by diff * diff before the summation, which is critical for large grid sizes (Nx) and dimensions (K).
  • python/fast_mlsirm/dif.py:1103 (RIGHT): Refactoring the alias loop to use direct function references instead of globals() string lookups improves maintainability and static analysis. The loop correctly updates __doc__ attributes and cleans up temporary variables without removing the functions from the module namespace.
  • tools/inventory_public_api.py:120 (RIGHT): The check if modname != 'fast_mlsirm' and not modname.startswith('fast_mlsirm.'): continue provides a necessary security boundary for importlib.import_module, ensuring that only modules within the fast_mlsirm namespace are loaded.

Adversarial validation

  • python/fast_mlsirm/estimators/marginal.py:1049 (RIGHT) falsified: The einsum operation might differ in precision or handle broadcasting differently than np.sum(diff * diff, axis=1). — Both operations compute the sum of squares across axis 1. einsum avoids the temporary diff * diff allocation, reducing peak memory from O(Nx*K) to O(Nx).
  • tools/inventory_public_api.py:120 (RIGHT) falsified: The modname.startswith check could be bypassed via a crafted module name (e.g., 'fast_mlsirm_fake'). — The check is modname != 'fast_mlsirm' and not modname.startswith('fast_mlsirm.'). The dot in .startswith('fast_mlsirm.') ensures it only matches sub-modules of the package, not sibling modules starting with the same string.
  • Residual risk: None. The use of np.einsum is a standard optimization for row-wise dot products in NumPy, and the import guard in the tool script correctly restricts the scope of dynamic imports.

Findings

  • No blocking findings.
