**Vulnerability:** The document hashing routine in `DefaultDocumentConversionService` processed file streams without enforcing any maximum size limit on the bytes read. An attacker could exploit this by uploading a maliciously large stream (or exploiting a compression bomb if unzipping), exhausting system memory, CPU, or disk space (DoS).
**Learning:** Checking the declared file size (e.g., `file.getSize()`) in initial validation is not always sufficient if the input stream itself can be spoofed or dynamically expanded during reading. The actual bytes read must be verified against bounds continuously.
**Prevention:** Always enforce a strict, configurable size limit (e.g., `ConversionProperties.maxUploadSizeBytes`) within the `while` loop that reads from untrusted input streams. Track `totalRead` and throw an exception immediately if the limit is exceeded.

## 2024-10-13 - [Add Authentication to Admin Endpoint]
**Vulnerability:** Admin controller endpoints completely lacked authentication and authorization checks.
**Learning:** Found a critical vulnerability where Admin controller operations like get, retry, and delete jobs didn't verify the invoker identity via the existing `TenantAccessService`.
**Prevention:** Make sure `TenantAccessService` authorization checks (like `tenantAccessService.require(headers, ...)`) are consistently implemented for *all* newly created controllers and endpoints, especially those dealing with administrative actions.

πŸ” Plan starts without a Markdown heading

The changed-docs lint gate retains MD041, which requires a top-level heading first. plan.md begins with a list and needs a heading.

- The memory states: "Administrative endpoints must be secured using `TenantAccessService` and an explicit cross-tenant admin permission (e.g., `admin:operate`) passed via request headers to prevent unauthorized access."
- Currently, `AdminController.java` lacks any authentication or authorization checks.

πŸ” Plan describes unfinished authorization work

The plan says AdminController lacks authorization, while this PR adds permission checks to all three routes. Readers cannot tell whether the plan records completed work or remaining tasks.

2. **Update `TenantPermissions.java`**
- Add the `ADMIN_OPERATE` permission as `"admin:operate"`.
3. **Update `AdminController.java`**
- Inject `TenantAccessService` via constructor.
- For every endpoint, read the `@RequestHeader HttpHeaders headers` and check `tenantAccessService.require(headers, TenantPermissions.ADMIN_OPERATE)`.
4. **Update `AdminControllerTest.java`**
- Add the new headers to requests or mock `TenantAccessService`.
5. **Pre-commit checks**
- Ensure the required testing, format, lint, and verification processes are complete.

πŸŸ₯ Unsigned headers grant cross-tenant admin access

When clearfolio.tenant-claims.hmac-secret is unset, TenantAccessService.require accepts caller-supplied admin:operate claims without verification. Any caller can list, delete, or retry jobs across tenants by sending three Clearfolio headers.

🟨 Admin tests never exercise authorization

AdminControllerTest sends a bearer header that TenantAccessService ignores and uses a no-op mock. Removing every admin permission check still leaves these tests green.
