RoomSense — AI-Powered Hotel Operations Platform

“Predict the Problem. Fix It Before the Guest Notices.”

RoomSense is an AI-powered hotel operations platform designed to shift hospitality management from reactive troubleshooting to predictive operations.

By integrating computer vision, historical failure logs, predictive risk modeling, and automated dispatch workflows, RoomSense ensures hotel rooms are completely ready and defect-free before check-in.

1. PRODUCT POSITIONING & CORE LOOP

The core value proposition of RoomSense lies in its integrated intelligence loop:

$$\text{DETECT} \longrightarrow \text{PREDICT} \longrightarrow \text{ACT} \longrightarrow \text{PREVENT}$$

Rather than just detecting dirty rooms, RoomSense bridges the gap between vision inspection, asset lifecycle memory, and dispatch workflows to proactively protect guest experiences:

  1. Detect: Housekeepers run AI camera inspections, flagging active issues (e.g. broken fixtures, missing items).
  2. Predict: Telemetry anomalies are mapped against historical database events to predict upcoming asset failures (e.g. repeated minor AC anomalies predicting complete compressor failure).
  3. Act: The system automatically generates maintenance tickets and dispatches staff matching engineering workloads.
  4. Prevent: Tasks are resolved, restoring the room to service before the next guest check-in.

2. KEY FEATURES

  • AI Room Inspection: Tablet/mobile-optimized wizard (Capture → Analyze → Review → Submit) that simulates computer-vision object detection, bounding-box overlays, and confidence scores.
  • Readiness Score Engine: Computes deterministic, auditable readiness scores based on category weights (Bed, Amenities, Bathroom, Furniture) rather than unexplained "black-box" magic.
  • Predictive Alerts Center: Triggers risk failure notifications based on asset history recurrence, time since last repair, and telemetry abnormalities.
  • Automated Maintenance Dispatch: Handles assignments, active states (OPEN, ASSIGNED, IN PROGRESS), and automatically marks rooms ready and resolves risk alerts on task completion.
  • What-If Operations Simulator: Simulates operations impact (backlogs, rooms at risk, guest impact risk) under staff shortages, occupancy surges, and maintenance delays.
  • Analytics & Trends: Visualizes room readiness trends, response speed, issue categories, and prevented guest incidents using Recharts.
  • Staff Roster Allocations: Visualizes availability, active tasks, workload capacity, and room coverage.

3. TECH STACK

  • Frontend Framework: React 19 (TypeScript) + Vite
  • Styling: Tailwind CSS v3
  • Charts: Recharts
  • Icons: Lucide React
  • Database: Remote Supabase PostgreSQL Cloud Database with Real-Time sync + Local storage offline fallback
  • Package Manager: NPM
  • SQL Schema & Migrations: supabase-schema.sql (Tables: rooms, staff, maintenance_tickets, predictive_alerts, historical_events, inspections)

4. DATABASE SETUP (SUPABASE CLOUD)

RoomSense supports both live Supabase PostgreSQL Cloud Database persistence and seamless local offline fallback:

  1. Create a Supabase Project:
  2. Execute Schema SQL:
    • Go to SQL Editor in the Supabase Dashboard.
    • Paste and run the contents of supabase-schema.sql.
  3. Connect to RoomSense:
    • Option A (.env file): Add your credentials to .env:
      VITE_SUPABASE_URL=https://your-project.supabase.co
      VITE_SUPABASE_ANON_KEY=your_supabase_anon_public_key
    • Option B (In-App Database Manager): Click the Database Settings / DB status pill in the RoomSense top navigation bar to test credentials and 1-click seed demo rooms and telemetry!

4. INSTALLATION & LOCAL RUN

To run RoomSense locally, follow these commands:

  1. Extract the ZIP folder contents to your workspace.
  2. Install dependencies:
    npm install
  3. Run the development server:
    npm run dev
  4. Open in browser: Navigate to the URL shown in your terminal (typically http://localhost:5173).
  5. Build production bundle:
    npm run build

5. DEMO CREDENTIALS

  • Manager Portal:
    • Email: manager@roomsense.demo
    • Password: demo123
  • Housekeeper Portal:
    • Email: housekeeper@roomsense.demo
    • Password: demo123

6. HACKATHON LIVE DEMO FLOW (ROOM 302 CHALLENGE)

Follow this 3-minute sequence to demonstrate the platform’s primary "wow moment":

  1. Login: Click the Manager Role quick login shortcut on the login page.
  2. Dashboard Overview: Show the KPIs. Highlight that Room 302 has generated a Predictive Alert (87% AC Failure Risk) based on telemetry and 4 recent logs.
  3. Verify History: Click on Rooms in the sidebar. Select Room 302. Show the circular readiness ring (85%), breakdown, active issues, and the History Timeline showing AC issues on Aug 10, 15, 20, and 24.
  4. Why this Risk?: Navigate to Predictive Alerts. Open the Why this Risk? explainability panel for Room 302 to show the deterministic mathematical risk calculation (historical recurrence, recent telemetry drop, time since repair).
  5. Dispatch Maintenance: Click Create Ticket on the Room 302 Alert card. The room status changes to CRITICAL.
  6. Assign Staff: Go to the Maintenance Dispatch tab. Click Assign Staff next to Room 302 and select Rajesh Kumar (75% load).
  7. Start & Resolve Work: Click Start Work to move status to IN PROGRESS. Then click Resolve when repair is complete.
  8. Watch the Loop Close: Show that:
    • The predictive alert has been cleared.
    • Room 302's readiness score restored to 100%.
    • Room 302 status is updated to READY.
    • Rajesh Kumar's workload decreased.
    • An entry is added to Room 302's history log.
    • Problem prevented before guest check-in!
  9. Scenario Planning: Navigate to the What-If Simulator. Adjust the Staff Shortage slider down to 60% and observe the predicted backlog charts.
  10. Interactive Stepper Mode: You can also run the entire end-to-end flow automatically by clicking Run RoomSense Demo on the top bar!

7. PROJECTED IMPACT TARGETS

  • 40% fewer guest incidents via early vision warning triggers.
  • 30% reduced maintenance costs by shifting engineering workflows to predictive cycles.
  • 92.4% proactive operations rate (issues caught before guest impacts).
