[Wine-Wayland] CoD: Black Ops Cold War crashes at random times #87

Description

@AKarpenter47

Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
  • Steam AppID of the game: 1985810

System Information

  • GPU: AMD RX 9060 XT 16GB
  • Video driver versions tested: Mesa 25.3.6, Mesa 26.0.1 (current)
  • Kernel version: 6.19.3-2-cachyos
  • Link to full system information report as Gist: Gist Report
  • Proton versions tested: GE-Proton 10-32, GE-Proton 10-31, Proton-CachyOS-slr-10.0-20260207
  • Desktop Compositor: KDE Plasma 6.6.1 w/ KWin 6.6.1

I confirm:

  • [ X] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • [ X] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

Using PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 launches the game successfully, but the game crashes out of nowhere, usually within like a minute or two of just being in the menu -- although I did have one lucky instance where I was able to actually complete a match before it crashed, so I'd say the timing can be random. The game runs fine on XWayland otherwise, albeit with worse frametimes than native Wayland.

I have tried using both Proton-GE as well as CachyOS-slr to no avail. The attached log file is from the latest GE 10-32, as that has been the latest Proton version available at the time of testing:
steam-1985810-GE.log

Reproduction

  1. Launch Black Ops Cold War with PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 on Steam
  2. Try to play as normal (or simply just wait in one of the menus for a bit and it'll crash regardless)
